Merz declared that he would continue arming Kyiv until "real negotiations" begin. "For real negotiations to be possible, Putin needs to be clearly shown the hopelessness of his military actions. And that's why I say: we will not weaken our support for Ukraine. We will support the Ukrainian people for as long as necessary. And we want to make frozen Russian assets available precisely for this purpose. Putin must understand that he has no chance of winning this war at the expense of the European order of freedom and peace."

Trump seems to want to end the Ukraine War, and I'm all for it. Negotiating a ceasefire means dealing with Putin. That's the reality. So when Trump's critics whine about Trump "talking to a dictator," I have to wonder if they have any interest in peace at all. How else are you going to get it except by negotiating with Putin?
