Lavrov and Peskov both said that Russia wants no negotiations with Ukraine and Europe. Yesterday, the leaders of Ukraine, United Kingdom, France and Germany met in London and outlined the conditions for reaching a just and lasting peace. These conditions include an immediate ceasefire, starting negotiations from the current positions and robust security guarantees for Ukraine. Putin has no interest in peace, negotiations or anything constructive. Putin can only be forced towards peace.

President Trump has said he is willing to put pressure on Vladimir Putin to accept the terms or face increased sanctions. Today, I told Jake Tapper 🦅 on The Lead CNN that Putin doesn’t have many options but to come to the table and get on board with this agreement.

I think the chances of a meeting between Zelensky and Putin before end of August is exactly zero. After that, extremely slim to none. A Putin-Zelensky summit is a fantasy of Trump’s. He appears to have misunderstood Putin or been misled by him. Lavrov said today, “Putin confirmed his readiness to continue direct Russian-Ukrainian negotiations that took place in Istanbul.” And that Putin was prepared to “raise the level of delegations.” But that is not Putin saying he is ready to meet Zelensky.
