Yes, I want to take this as an opportunity to explore codecs. I want to reimplement some simple codecs from the past. Something like h261 or cinepak.

Nice! Looking at the AVI spec, there are more than 50 integer values that need to be present in the headers alone for the AVI to be valid. Even with a fancy hex viewer, debugging the output file feels like 😬 .
