I rewatched the Kirby timeout sequence. Kirby calls timeout. Then tells the ref that Auburn was clapping. “They can’t clap! They can’t clap!” Points to Auburn: “They’re clapping!” Ref weirdly overturns the timeout call. Broadcast assumes Kirby said he didn’t call timeout.

Just saw this. So now Kirby is saying he was trying to tell the officials Auburn was clapping and he was not signaling for a timeout? When Kirby was CLEARLY signaling for a timeout. In summary, 2 things can be true. #1 Auburn was clapping which should be a penalty. #2 Kirby Smart did try to trick the officials. That is all

Was analyzing the “Kirby Smart timeout” situation while watching film this morning. Kirby Smart was NOT trying to convince the refs he was clapping instead of calling for a timeout. Smart was telling the officials that Auburn was clapping on defense. The announcers didn’t portray it that way. So many out there (including myself) thought Smart was trying to trick the refs. But that’s not what happened here
