"I still don't understand the play" "Doesn't matter, just keep telling the story" so meta and the most direct shot at the audience. You don't necessarily need to "get" everything that's happening, it's ok to to just keep going until it makes sense and maybe it never does

I really loved this video essay on Asteroid City that does a good job of breaking down Wes Anderson barrelling towards a sort of post modernist version of himself. AC inverting on itself so many times that it basically becomes an abstract of an abstract

My best friend and I understand the movie in the same way but in different directions. It's about grief. I think there really was a play, and the actor repeats it over and over to try to connect with the author, his lover who died before the play was finished (1/2)

people always focus on the scene after this which is indeed beautiful but his "am I doing him right?" shot right through me, I had tears streaming down my face during this bit

I feel it's more pointed towards 'the truth and meaning of it is in the emotions you feel, not in the logic applied to it', or at least I read it at least partially that way. Art is about feeling, and if it makes you think then great, but the moment is what counts imo

I’m not the biggest fan of the film but this was one of my favorite movie moments in recent memory

Ughhh I hate seeing scenes that remind me why Adrien Brody is a fantastic actor

art you may not fully understand >>>

Honestly... his best work.

“That’s so meta—a reminder to just keep following the story, even if it never fully makes sense.”

Like life itself I don't understand shit and i still keep going
