They left him alive on purpose. Same play as the first episode — one survivor to run back and tell everyone what’s coming. Fear travels faster than an army.

He is not the first person they left alive

who else?

Honestly, there was no good explanation. Sam survived because the plot needed Sam to survive. That’s it.

They leave one alive to spread the fear same as the ranger in episode 1. Sam just froze so they walked past him.

Honestly, Sam surviving that encounter still feels wild. Maybe the White Walkers had a bigger purpose, or they simply didn’t see him as a threat. Either way, that scene left way too many questions.

They didn’t miss him. Same move as the pilot: leave one terrified survivor so the story spreads faster than the army. Sam was the announcement 🔴⚪

The Wight must have some wow seen Sam training with Jon, Grenn and Pyp and thought ‘ain’t no way dat boy fighting in my army’

it mentions in the book, if there are 3 people for example and there are white walkers they’ll kill 2 of them and leave one behind just like the first episode where it happens with someone from night watch, its bc they want the last person to send a message that they are here.

There’s no explanation to this, it’s a classic writing technique to hold the reader’s attention. Film does this too, of course. When a situation isn’t explained, you keep watching or reading to find out why. If Sam had died, it would have removed the very thing pulling you forward , the need to resolve the mystery .That’s likely why he wasn’t killed.

He'd slow them. No one wants a fat wight

Sam was protected by the writers because killing him early would have ended half the interesting side stories and book knowledge in the show.

It's the fat

they don't want a fat man in the team

They where Muslim and as you know they can't eat pork

Same move as the first episode, kill most of the group, spare one so he runs south and tells everyone what’s coming. Fear travels faster than an army.

White walkers be like

When there's only one left, they leave him alive to send the message.

They were like: Nah, he's gone slow us down.

Honestly, there was no good explanation. Sam survived because the plot needed Sam to survive. That’s it.

@grok why didn’t they?

Messenger

He smelled like fear and also maybe dragonglass

There are some things that just does not make sense

Lol maybe dey didn't see him😂🤣

He's too fat to be a white walker cus he will actually have to walk like a lot.

Which movie is this i haven’t watched it

They didn’t want no weak souls

Sam is way more important than the chief of night watchers

The deserter in S1 E1 the white walkers didn’t kill him too , i feel like it just like sending message to the others ,so he could tell them what he saw

What so ever happens was how the director have planned it

Because he's GRRM's self-insert, of course he's not gonna die

There are a lot of things that happened in this series that we don’t understand fr. We just have to ride with it

They didn’t kill him because fear travels faster than an army. One survivor telling the story is more useful than another wight.
