"haha elon is dumb" is the take most people have on this whereas this is one of the smartest things Elon does that sets him apart: setting aside his ego for objectivity

Strong opinions, weakly held. Best philosophy to live by, you should have core values or goals but be able to adapt to change.

So…@elonmusk , in public, admitted that a YouTuber has a a really nice idea that he hasn’t thought of..for his business! For his creation! And after he fix it, he says more or less thank you…and still people don’t trust him…I have never seen a wealthy guy acts like this…bravo

Adaptation requires humility. And ironically leads to greatness.

The craziest thing is that he said “I came up with it when we were talking last time”

Greatest business leader humanity has ever seen. Would be a dream to work for SpaceX.

There’s so much in this one moment. To be able to keep ego completely out of the way like that and immediately embrace the surprise course correction is more impressive than anything else he does.

That conversation was with @Erdayastronaut , I am 95% sure! I suppose SpaceX did end up using hot gas for Ship attitude control, in addition to cold gas? If so, kudos Tim Dodd for asking a great question to get Elon's great mind to really think!

I remember watching this and I think it occurred to everyone at the same time. Best example of rubber ducking.

Not letting his ego get in the way of a good idea here is a huge strength

I love how he gives the guy some credit for asking smart questions. Doesn’t really square with the idea that he is a total narcissist.

Talking engineering through with another is probably like a writer finding out their thoughts, once they’ve written them down.

now they using cold gas only. the system for hot gas is complex to achieve and simpler is cold gas thrusters

He can't even admit that the other guy gave him the idea. He says that it occured to him while he was explaining something. You can hear the Egocentrism

I saw that "live" when it was first broadcast. Such an incredible moment.

Why does Elon feel so responsible for the world? He brings other people so much joy, yet his own suffering is what makes it feel wrong. I'd like to contribute to his cause, but I don't know how.

Elon Musk can be justifiably proud of what he and his companies achieved yesterday without being wedded to it for tomorrow. This is a major reason way he and his companies can move so fast and well.

I had been researching Tesla, saw the first half (July 2021) video and promptly loaded up on TSLA. Few people process like that.

This is how engineering works. Very little mention of all of the "other" attempts that happened before the breakthrough.

Love Tim's original clip, but it's a shame to associate it with the AI generated nonsense from Race.
