I think about this one frequently

This one has stuck with me ever since the first time I saw it. Truly remarkable to think about what those soldiers went through.

I often wonder what the fish made of all this

Granted, this was pre-jets, pre-REAL nuclear/large-scale weaponry, and pre-modern weapons. Literally just guys with machine guns, shovels, and a shit ton of GRIT.

Looks like star wars, but on the ocean

Colorized B-24 Bombing Run

Ww2 was peak war. After that it kinda fell off

that drop into the fjord is insane

this thing is 2 hours long.

Horrors of war and all that but I gotta imagine on some level it felt sick as fuck as some farm boy to fly into a fjord and bomb a ship knowing you were completely justified in doing it

idk, AI? looks to clean

I posted it in 2021, which predates the current AI wave iirc. Maybe some upscaling though idk. It comes from a seemingly legit archive (

what an awful sound

War kinda went out of fashion after WW2. Mankind's history has been all about waging the coolest war and they really peaked the genre in '45. It's all been downhill since

Is that Norway?

I think, for me, WW2 is kind of the "ideal" of what a war is supposed to like. Big armies going at each other, grand naval battles and aerial engagements, the whole 9 yards. So when I imagine war my default is what a battlefiled would look in WW2

They have an old flight simulator at the pearl harbor museum and I was not prepared for how intense a banked turn or rolling upside down was, even knowing you're not moving. I got tunnel vision and it took me a few seconds to realize I had pulled the throttle all the way back.

Is there a longer cut?

Original without AI upscaling if anyone is interested:

Ah thank you!!

I dont care what anyone says. World War 2 is fucking bad asd

One of the videos I come back to isn’t footage, but audio of some battles in the netherlands. It’s intense especially when you hear the mg42.

P-47's hittin trains in italy is one of my favorite bangers

Like the opening of Revenge of the Sith.

this series is amazing:

The cameraman

What battle is this?

Sheesh looks like navy stood no chance back then.

This may be a bad take. Governments want to hide the honors of war. I feel nukes made the horrors of war very personal and real to every person; while also being hard for governments to hide, where as before, war was distant and disconnected from life for everyday civilians and not really a factor, governments could easily trick its citizens into fighting a war. Making death and worse, a very possible outcome for every person.

And now you know why they drank

This one sticks with me as well. Crazy footage.

This is what war is supposed to look like. None of that modern gay fpv drone stuff

i totally agree that stripping away film grain and oversmoothing frame rates completely ruins the classic cinematic look

Am i wrong to say this is overwhelmingly beautiful

I love how all the rockets missed

My first thought was, “Wow, this looks a lot like Star Wars,” but then I remembered that GL used actual footage from World War II to put together the aerial battle scenes

the way pathé archives just hold every human moment like its nothing and we get to stumble on them a century later
