This clip loses the context of what she was saying. Her argument was that a man with no money/job is still a man that deserves love and compassion from his wife, but oftentimes men are too hard on themselves and that frustration shows itself in the household. Hence “lie to me”

My take is that this is actually less about lying to her than it is about treating her with the same consistency that safeguards everyone else around you... You cant cage the animal for everyone else's comfort and unleash it kuye, yayazi la ntetha ithi energy can not be destroyed only trnsferred or something to that effect, lilonke abanye bayoyikwa they give you hell which you seem to accept and protect them from what you truly feel kuye?

Here’s the full link for those of you asking.

Because you are my truth, the only thing that feels real in my life

This is deep and so sad,🤔 woman begging for basic emotional respect while a man hides neglect behind “honesty.” He gives his best self to strangers and his worst to the woman who loves him, thus turning love into endurance and partnership into emotional labour😔

This was early 70s, this still holds true today. The outside world gets a different version of our men than their significant other. They'll smile/laugh to others but their partner sees/feels the mean /sad side of things more often than anyone else

Why did black Americans sound different before(like in this video) than they do now? Especially the women. What happened? If they remained in same place(America) why did their speech pattern change? What influenced this their new way of speaking?

i love nikki giovanni and god rest her beautiful soul but I will NEVER subscribe to the idea that as black men, we have to use the same mechanisms we use to cope with an implicitly bias society with our women to secure our peace. that’s just not human, and people will sit on this app and justify it lol like it’s so profound to put on an emotional charade with our s/o’s. but then cry about dishonesty! it sounds smart to ignorant mf’s. her an james baldwin were exchanging banter.

this going over a lot of heads lol the comments are hilarious

Iconic video

Well ,I have never thought about it this way . We pretend to be nice to strangers and treat them with respect ,but we show our true selves to our loved ones .hmmm..

I use to feel like if i tell my girl a lie, I’m implying that i’m scared of her, and i’m not. After undergoing a 1yr intentional survey of that, telling the truth no matter what i came to the conclusion that, lie was a must. So I adopted the idea of “The right truth”

All I can say is life is just crazy. Even the right thing sometimes feels so wrong

Damn!!! This is deep. I know it 100%. 30+ and still going strong but nothing pisses my wife off more than someone telling her how nice her husband is. Her body literally locks up when she sees it coming. On the way home I don’t say shit in the car.

This resonates with me. I know exactly what she’s going through

Ooooo.

The key is consistency not deceit I think he can be mad at the world show this frustration and still love his wife The key is through the strain and grit smile cuz she’s right with you enduring

I wonder if she means lie to me, cause I’d rather not know. Lie to me when I ask is there another woman, lie to me when you don’t love me anymore, but you stay. Lie all you want, cause she already knows the truth, but she knows you will lie cause you lover her.

Eh... I don't even know what to say.

It breaks me apart because I understand her so well.

I’ve just listened to this a few times, it goes deeper every time.

I 💙 this convo, their interaction is so sweet. It's just ironic that they both ended up coming out as gay yrs later. I think it's important 2 learn from their dialog but not 2 take it as a blueprint 4 relationships since they were both gay which stems from unhealed sexual trauma

This is good. Love her take on it. I get it, I get her...

This the dumbest shit I’ve seen or heard in a long time.. mmas if kids arnt taped into the unspoken.. They may be too young to communicate it.. but they feel every bit of shit energy. Preventative maintenance on the relationship or let somebody else who cares do it.

Damn….. that’s all I got. Damn…

@DM_Maak

This is the most idiotic thing I have ever come across.

This is really deep

I think what she means is a homeless man can get a better version of her husband then she does, be nice to me smile and me and our child will grow up in a loving home. It’s not straight up lying. We all do shit for people we don’t want to do, what not do it for your wife.

What a weird fucking ask.

You can lie to me, but make sure i never ever find out

That’s a hurt person. I get it. But, one should want truth. Not the fake people may give to the world. Then they can make informed choices.
