Y’all are aggressively missing the point. He’s talking about how he’s perceived and not having an archetype in media which most people use as their blueprint for groups they don’t know. Not that the community doesn’t exist just how people are intro’d to groups they don’t see reg

I totally agree. I’m old enough to remember the representation ALL Black people once had. In the 90s, they were sometimes called backpackers. It’s why I loved Issa’s rise to stardom cause she was repping awkward BGs. We need this representation back to the forefront.

I think that this archetype exists. I think I’m one of these archetypes we just learned how to dress better. The outside appearance doesn’t define the nerd on the inside

I disagree with him. This archetype is still very much alive and strongly represented in the real world. Maybe where he resides there’s a lack of “nerdy black men”? Also, it’s misleading to use TV and film as a means to measure true representation or “space” in the real world.

He's not spitting. We are actually just considered black now lol. Black nerds are streamers, rappers, musicians, singers, actors, lawyers, organizers, directors, librarians, etc. Maybe it's just cause I'm from the Bay area but the archetypes he's looking for are marketing ploy’s.

@ProdigysLawyer This is what happens when the primary definition of being a black man is defined by how hood and hypermasculine u are. Y’all don’t define manhood by a man’s actions the focus is 100% on MANNERISM. Y’all say Russell Wilson isn’t a man bc he’s nice, laidback & respects his wife

All the cartoons use to have that one nerdy black friend. Like fairly odd parents and billy and mandy.
