And robotics is just getting started, with new companies raising over $30 million.

That was a great little video explainer. Big fan of Micro Duck and the engineering team behind it.

Thanks! There’s a lot more going on under the hood than its cute appearance suggests.

I think you are the one missing the point. Clearly we have some indication of demand for an autonomous interactive cute little robot

I agree there’s demand for cute interactive robots. My point is that MicroDuck deserves attention for the engineering behind it too. Both things can be true.

Agreed it’s just that most people won’t see or care about that. This is an open source development project right now but I’m hoping they package it as an actual product

Have fun while learning something. It’s like free dopamine during difficult times.

Would love to hook it up to my local AI server and have it control this little robot. No idea if it’s possible tho. Haven’t pulled the trigger and got one yet.

That would be a fun project! Let's see how it goes.

The real point is that it waddles like a drunk duck

Haha, fair enough 😂 But getting that kind of movement from such a small robot is part of the engineering worth looking at.

The engineering behind it doesn't make it less of a toy

The engineering is impressive, but I think MicroDuck’s value goes beyond being a toy. Making robotics accessible helps more people learn, experiment and build.

Make the first robots cute and trainable to encourage adoption, which helps future more human-like models.

I agree. Making robots approachable and easy to train could help people get comfortable with them before more human like robots become common.

I want one so bad so I can teach it stuff help me remember notes and appointments and just to have around. They’re so cool

Yes, it’s feasible in principle. MicroDuck could be a fun platform for learning robotics, and connecting it to an AI assistant could help with notes, reminders, and appointments.

It’s pretty cool and I think would be fun to have around with the family, I’m interested in learning more about how the inter working parts to eventually build my own custom robot one day.

That’s what makes projects like MicroDuck interesting. You can have fun with it while learning how the hardware and software work together. A great starting point for building your own robot one day.

I agree, I’m building my very own AI and have been for a few months, with all of the tools today I’ve built software and now the AI. Next is to learn how to get it into my own robot one day. It’s amazing what can be done.
