The solution is not as simple as her asking for the list of 500 books that concerned people identified so she can take a look at it. I’m glad she is removing the 500 inappropriate books BUT the solution should be that she figures out how she missed 500 inappropriate books! Who approved all of these sexually explicit books for kids? Are they being fired? This is an egregious “mistake”.

It’s possible the Palm Beach County School Board violated its recently adopted policy 1.03 on public comment restrictions that was modeled after our own M4L Brevard Chapter’s legal win against our school board for violating the first amendment rights of the public. That legal win is starting to be adopted in school boards across the nation. Worth exploring.

As parents of Jewish children who were born in the U.K, we often think about which education system will be right for our family. For months, I interviewed and talked to students, teachers, headteachers, and parents. What I learned frightened me. For the past week, I have been in direct communication with UESF and the school district, and I have continued to provide support from the city to help them come to an agreement. Both sides made important progress yesterday, and I am incredibly appreciative of the hard work of our educators and the district. Now, it is critical that they continue the conversation so our kids can stay in school. I have made my office available to both parties, and I have told them that I will be available—day and night, as long as it takes—to reach an agreement that supports our hardworking educators while keeping the school district on the path to fiscal stability. In the scenario that an agreement cannot be reached today, I have asked both UESF and the school district to agree to three additional days for conversations to continue—that would allow kids to stay in the classroom and the adults to keep talking. Our students and our parents need certainty ahead of tomorrow. Whenever I visit govt schools, I first go and see how well the toilets are being maintained. Yesterday I visited Saipur ST Girls Residential School in Tandur. The same school there was food poisoning and several children were very sick. I went to see the kitchen. I was happy to see it was hygienic and the children told me the food was good. I also went to see the toilets and was happy to see they were well maintained. Appreciate the officials for taking immediate action after the disaster.

I often see young children being made to work instead of learning. Today, they were carrying bricks using a wheelbarrow in very hot weather. I tried to speak to a teacher who was in the school yard giving instructions to the children, but she did not respond to me. While standing near this school, I asked a woman who was nearby abut this situation and she said they are afraid to speak out because their children might be expelled from the school. I am sharing this here so the children can get help. It looks like abus€. I don’t think any parent would agree for children of that age to be treated like this, especially in such hot conditions.
