Both Abridged wise and Canon wise, you can tell Vegeta REALLY missed Goku during the post-Cell timeskip, if only because he was legit the only guy Vegeta wanted to fight against and surpass, which gave him purpose. Once Goku died, Vegeta lost that purpose.
