In Minnesota, ICE agents handcuffed a pregnant woman, forced her onto her stomach, and put their full body weight and knees on her, refusing to let her get up. In the video, you can hear the crowd screaming over and over that she is pregnant. They plead with the agents to stop. The woman is not resisting, not moving, not a threat. It doesn’t matter. The agents ignore them, continue pointing pepper spray at the crowd, and one agent even shoves a woman backward, assaulting her simply for speaking up. People keep begging them to let the pregnant woman off her stomach, to stop putting weight on her body. The agents refuse. The crowd grows louder and more desperate, because they are watching someone who could lose her pregnancy, right in front of them, at the hands of ICE agents. Only after the crowd begins throwing snowballs is the pregnant woman able to get off her stomach. And then it gets worse. The ICE agents begin pepper spraying the crowd. One agent drags the pregnant woman by the arm while she is still helpless and restrained. Pepper spray fills the air, hitting bystanders and the pregnant woman herself as she lies on the ground beneath them. This is not “law enforcement.” This is cruelty. This is reckless endangerment. This is state violence carried out in public, on camera, against a pregnant woman who posed no threat. If this is what they’re willing to do while being filmed, imagine what happens when no one is watching.

🚨BREAKING: (CHICAGO SUBURBS) ICE agents pulled a GUN, and a TASER, on unarmed U.S. citizens for recording them from a public sidewalk… while threatening, “you aren’t going to like the outcome.” In the video, legal observers are standing on a public sidewalk recording ICE agents. The agents stop, get out of their cars, and approach THEM. One agent has his GUN drawn, another has his TASER drawn. The agents tell the legal observers to stop following them. A U.S. citizen responds: “We aren’t doing anything illegal. It’s totally legal to follow you.” He is correct. The First Amendment protects the right to record law enforcement, and federal agents, carrying out their duties in public. And federal regulations specifically recognize that people can record publicly accessible federal activity from public sidewalks, and streets, when they aren’t impeding or disrupting operations. Then, the agent says: “Stop following us, you aren’t going to like the outcome.” That is a serious First Amendment retaliation issue. And then it gets even more dangerous. The same armed federal agents, who just threatened these people with weapons and retaliation… surround the citizens’ car and claim THEY are blocking traffic. But look at the video. The only people blocking traffic are the ICE agents… who have now boxed in the citizens’ car. Agents cannot detain someone because they don’t like being watched. A vehicle stop requires reasonable suspicion of an actual legal violation. And recording and observing ICE agents, from a public place, is not obstruction. It is not illegal. Government agents are supposed to be accountable to the people… not the other way around. The First Amendment protects your right to watch and record your government. The Fourth Amendment limits the government’s power to stop and detain you. And neither one comes with an ICE exception.

In a Sam’s Club parking lot in Cicero, Illinois… just outside Chicago… federal agents illegally deployed pepper spray into a moving vehicle with a baby in the back seat. In the video, after he falls to the ground, agents pile on top of him, as the agents smash his head into the concrete multiple times. While he’s lying on the ground… not fighting back, and making no visible attempt to get away… the agents drag his face across the pavement as they go to handcuff him. Then, with both agents already on top of him, and his arms being pulled behind his back, one agent slams his head into the concrete, again. Even after both agents have him pinned, and are kneeling on him, one agent continues forcing his head into the pavement. By the time they finally pull him to his feet, you can clearly see his face is injured. Law enforcement are allowed to use force, that’s objectively reasonable, under the circumstances. But, once someone is effectively under control, any additional force has to be justified by a legitimate safety need… not punishment, anger, or retaliation. If someone is no longer actively resisting, repeatedly driving their head into concrete… is difficult to justify as necessary force. This is exactly what happens when the government refuses to hold ICE agents accountable. The more ICE agents get away with excessive force, the more excessive force becomes their normal.
