@RCamposDuffy @CharlesHurt @pdoocy We don't have any materials to teach cursive. Before technology, we had time to emphasize this skill. I feel it's a better channel for the brain than typing. I've taught for 35 years, this year I've done less with cursive than ever before. I need to change this.

@CarlBotha2 @RCamposDuffy @CharlesHurt @pdoocy My dad born 1933, only learned "handwriting " in school not printing. He used to mock me when I used the word cursive instead of handwriting. The idea back then was printing was taught by proxy. If you could read print, and manipulate a pencil, learning to print was redundant.

This week as our kids take a deeply flawed STAAR test graded by AI and manipulated by Greg Abbott’s Texas Education Agency Commissioner, let’s remember that upon Greg Abbott’s direction, my amendment to the voucher scam bill to require the same test be given to private school kids who receive vouchers as our kids in public schools take was rejected. As he forces a supersized STAAR test on our kids in public school, Greg Abbott knows that private school parents won’t tolerate the STAAR test. Why is there a push to close Chicago Public Schools on May 1? According to the Illinois State Board of Education, only 1 in 3 CPS elementary students are proficient in reading and only 1 in 5 are proficient in math. Our kids need more time in the classroom, not less, yet Chicago parents are being asked for their kids to lose another day of school on May 1st for a political Day of Action. Parents and kids rely on schools for learning and consistency. Closing schools will send parents scrambling for babysitters or losing wages to stay home to care for their kids. For some kids, schools are where they get their meals and are the safest place they’ll be that day. As a CPS mom, I have skin in the game and expect my son to be in school where he belongs on May 1st. Keep Chicago’s students in the classroom, parents at work, and focus on the city’s test scores, not its politics. #chicago

BUT - Then they may not be able to read type written words either - We keep reading articles that say students can't read - How do they expect to succeed in life? What has the Teacher's unions and "woke" teachers done to our children - They have concentrated on things that only cause our children to have a need to protest and other things that make no difference in this world. It's true - too many times students can't read or write when they graduate high school - First of all - I want to know how they graduated and have learned nothing about anything that will help them succeed in life.

These students at a Los Angeles high school just attacked 2 cops while violently protesting against ice! This is not what are kids at in school to learn!
