Derek Jeter says Michael Jordan was a much better baseball player than people give him credit for, going from Little League to Double-A and hitting .200 “A lot of people laugh. ‘Oh, Michael was this. Michael was that.’ Michael Jordan played baseball in Little League, and then the next time he played, he’s playing in Double-A baseball” “When you play in the minor leagues… You have rookie ball, Low-A, High-A, Double-A, Triple-A, and then you get to the major leagues. no one who watched Quinn Ewers play high school football here in Texas, ride the bench at Ohio State, and transfer to Texas where half his fanbase despised him (and still led his team almost the entire way) is surprised by his choice to enter the NFL draft. QE3 has, and has had since he was a kid at Southlake Carroll high school, the belief that he is destined for big things. Raise your kids with the same belief. Don’t encourage them to chase a bag because at the end of the day, a bag isn’t a legacy.

If you need a 1-game capsule of the skills & talent of Alex Freeland, last night was a pretty good one to bookmark. Freeland played 3rd and showed his athletic ability & arm strength on making a play on a slow roller he had to come in on. He then showed his competitive nature & toughness catching a throwdown from Hunter Feduccia to nail a runner trying to steal 3rd. As for the offensive side Freeland hit a double to the opposite field gap on a very aggressive swing in a + count, then shortened up later in the game with 2 strikes and shot one the other way for a 2-strike, 2-out, 2-RBI base hit. Freeland is hitting .333, OPS is .909. He leads the PCL in hits with 31 and also in doubles with 12. He's top 5 among qualified players in the PCL in RBIs (25), and then is top ten in BBs (14), and Stolen Bases (6). #dodgers

You can see the umpire waits, and once he gets to the dugout, the umpire calls him out. For this, the putout is still to the catcher, and all assists are accounted for, so this was a double for Bohm, and Arraez is out at home 9-4-2. Also, while Arraez started on second, this is still considered a double by rule, as you can have a double despite the runner on second being out at home. This team was down by 7 runs in the last inning. They made a comeback and scored the winning run by this young man stealing home. 👏 This is why as a catcher, you never throw the ball back to the pitcher from your knees with runners on base. You always stand and take a look at the runner, ESPECIALLY with a runner on third and in this scenario, the game winning run. That’s poor coaching imho. It’s the little fundamentals that are coached in practice that add up to whether a team is prepared or not for the games. Where was the coach telling his catcher to keep an eye on the runner at third?

6’10 Freshman Wing Brady Koehler is one of the most intriguing longterm NBA Draft prospects. Koehler had a strong freshman season for Notre Dame where he averaged 6 PPG along with a block and steal a game in only 16 MPG. He also shot 45% from the field and 38% from three. Cardinals Player Spotlight - Ray Lankford Lankford was born on June 5, 1967, in Los Angeles, California. He played as an outfielder in Major League Baseball, primarily for the St. Louis Cardinals, from 1990 to 2004, with a brief stint with the San Diego Padres in 2001-2002. After a taste of the big leagues in 1990, Lankford would finished 3rd in voting for the National League's Rookie of the Year in 1991. Lankford was known for his combination of power and speed, hitting 238 home runs and stealing 258 bases over his career. He spent most of his career with the Cardinals, where he became a fan favorite. His best season was arguably 1998, when he hit .293 with 31 home runs and 105 RBIs. Lankford hit 123 home runs at Busch Stadium II, the most of any player in the stadium's history. This play happened a couple of years ago in a regional final matchup. Unique to say the least. A single up the middle to center field. One run scores. The center fielder charges and throws home. The second runner is coming in to score. The runner slides, the catcher swipes at his arm, was he safe or out? The issue here is the runner who scored before stays behind home plate and is waving for the next runner to get down. The home plate umpire bumps into him, trips, and falls down and doesn’t see the play. 🤯 You can defer to the field umpire but if he didn’t see it, what call can you make? 🤷‍♂️ Some said the runner should be out because the player who scored first interfered with the home plate umpire. I have never seen a play like this. What do you think? What’s the call? Safe or out?

This play caused some scorekeeper confusion. The batter is up with two outs and two strikes. Runner on third base. The batter swings and misses, strike three but the ball gets by the catcher. Before the catcher can throw down to first base to try and get the batter out, he tags the runner out from third who is trying to steal home. Inning over. But, who leads off next inning for the team batting? The next batter in the lineup or does the current batter come back up because he was never recorded as an out or safe? The same batter came back up to bat next inning and the umpire and coach from the opposing team didn’t say anything. Did they get it right?

FORMER KNOTT COUNTY CENTRAL AND ALICE LLOYD STAR PROVING TO BE A BIG SUCCESS IN BASEBALL Baseball has taken Dalton Cornett many places. The former Knott County Central star and Alice Lloyd College All-American has found a way to make a career out of the sport in a unique way - by playing Banana Ball! Cornett, the son of Alice Lloyd head coach Scott Cornett, was an All-American and NCCAA Mideast Region Player of the Year for the Eagles. He then transitioned to playing baseball professionally. He played for the Lexington Legends of the Atlantic League and the Billings Mustangs of the Pioneer League. He also spent some time in Puerto Rico before signing with the Savanah Bananas organization. He spent his first three years playing with the Party Animals, one of the teams created to play against the Bananas. This season, he is playing with one of the organization’s other teams - The Firefighters. Cornett is still enjoying the game he loves and recently hit a homer against the Bananas in a game. Cornett also owns DC3, a baseball equipment and clothing company. His company has designed uniforms, and his gloves have even been used in Major League Baseball games. One of his gloves is a tribute to Kentucky. He’s showing how one can be a success in a sport that they love without going the traditional route while using savvy to run a baseball business. We’re proud of what Dalton Cornett is doing, and he serves as a role model for young athletes in the mountains with his hustle both on and off the field.

You get 1 spring Little League season per year. You can play tournaments every weekend. Missing your rec league games to play in a travel ball tournament is not legit. It's also not safe from an arm care perspective. The travel ball player is probably a top Little League player, so it really hurts the team. Dont put your child that situation. And dont do that to the team. It puts the Little League head coach in an awful position. What are they supposed to tell the team? "Oh yea, little Bobby is playing on his travel team this weekend instead of with us..." And then that travel ball player is expected to just be slotted back into the lineup? That's not right. I bet if the LL coach sits the player for skipping out on the team, those parents complain. In fact, I literally just had this happen with a good friend... which prompted this reflection. Play Little League or Travel Ball. And if you do both, prioritize the rec league with the team who has worked together for months with the goal of playing meaningful baseball at the end of the season. Show up for the volunteer coach who probably selected you as one of their top picks to carry and lead the team.
