Moulton: The problem is because the president has no idea how to get out of this mess that he started, he might very well escalate further. And in a sense, the war is already escalating because now they have successfully shot down a U.S. Plane. They may have a U.S. Hostage. The president has no plan to end this war. And if he thinks he's going to get out of it by escalating, it's probably going to cost a lot more American lives. And it's going to be even harder to get back to the negotiating table. Unless we want to go to war with Iran every 3 or 4 years, then he's got to have a plan to bring this to a conclusion that's more than just a military action to take out some percentage of their launchers, that they're just going to rebuild anyway.

Trump: I hope we get cooperation from the courts because you know, we have thousands of people that are ready to go out. And you cannot have a trial for all of these people. The system was not meant that not -- we don't think there is anything that says… We are getting them out. And a judge cannot say no, you have to have a trial. The trial is going to take two years. No, we are going to have a very dangerous country if we are not allowed to do what we are entitled to do.

So if they are in possession of the files, we have deep concerns that they would manipulate those files in some way. The other thing we are concerned they’re going to do is only release files that either make the president look good or only release files that the president chooses to agree to release — and not tell the whole story, protecting the president and his friends, and anyone else the president deems worth protecting. So, this is a concern. He’s signed the bill, but this is only the beginning of the fight to make sure we get the full, unredacted release of the files, which is what we really need.

Jim Hanson says President Trump’s pressure forced Iran to the table, arguing the strategy worked and opened the door to real negotiations and regional security: “We proved we can and will crush them. And it’s kind of interesting—the same deal has been on the table for this entire time, and all of a sudden now they’re going to go ahead and accept it. What changed? What changed was President Trump threatening to end the Islamic Republic completely. And I have a question for all the people who were losing their minds today and howling that President Trump should be hauled out of the White House in shackles and frog-marched away to be tried for war crimes—now that it worked, now that that hyperbolic rhetoric stopped additional escalation, is he going to get an apology from them? I doubt it.
