Do not be under any illusions that the Russian war against Ukraine is "Putin's war". Russian state propaganda has created a parallel reality in the minds of most of all Russians, where they are not the ones who attacked a neighboring country, destroying entire cities, kidnapping children and killing civilians every day. It's just like during World War II, where ordinary Germans said that Jews were doing well in concentration camps, and after losing and being taken to gas chambers to show what was happening there, they made excuses that "they didn't know." No, they, like the Russians, knew the terrible truth. Russians just convince themselves that it's not so and they are the good guys, and the Ukrainians are the bad guys. Only a military defeat for Russia will bring the bewildered Russians back to reality. And if Russia wins, it will only convince the Russians that their barbaric government is doing everything right and aggression and imperialism will only flourish...

President Trump gave Ukraine lethal weapons—javelins and stingers—that killed Russians and saved Kyiv as Biden was figuring out if it was an invasion or “just a minor incursion.” The strange part about Mehdi Hasan's argument is that he actually seems to agree with the current outcome President Trump has accomplished (basically putting the ball back in Putin’s court), but as a leftist, he just CAN’T give Trump credit for it.
