The implication therefore is that the reason why the Defence Investment Plan will be nine months late if it’s delivered in May after the local elections, is because the reports of a £20bn+ funding gap are true, and as things stand the Defence Investment Plan isn’t ready, isn’t robust and can’t be delivered. Wes Streeting talks about raising defence spending to record levels, but those are currently just words. That increase isn’t scheduled to happen for another year, meanwhile Labour’s rhetoric doesn’t match their actions. They talk about good game but we can increasingly see this Government isn’t serious about defence, and isn’t prepared to do what it takes.
