“The Defence Investment Plan is coming. It will be published when it is ready, when it is robust and it is a plan that can be delivered”. The implication therefore is that the reason why the Defence Investment Plan will be nine months late if it’s delivered in May... after the local elections, is because the reports of a £20bn+ funding gap are true, and as things stand the Defence Investment Plan isn’t ready, isn’t robust and can’t be delivered. Wes Streeting talks about raising defence spending to record levels, but those are currently just words. That increase isn’t scheduled to happen for another year, meanwhile Labour’s rhetoric doesn’t match their actions. We cannot afford to be left behind under this Labour Government. We are the only party with a clear plan and a clear path to raising defence spending to 3.0% of GDP. You can be a warfare economy or a welfare economy, but you can’t be both, as Labour are finding out.
