In announcing Kyle Larson's Indy-Charlotte Double plans today, Jeff Gordon said that a JR Motorsports driver who fits Larson's physical profile will likely serve as his backup driver for any NASCAR sessions he has to miss. "You can do the math and put it together." Gordon referenced the challenges that came with Kevin Harvick filling in for Larson during North Wilkesboro practice and qualifying, noting it was a lot of work for the team to swap seats and other in-car components that suited Harvick back to Larson. Gordon also said that Larson will "probably" miss the same sessions as he did last year. On the IndyCar side, Tony Kanaan will once again serve as Larson's backup.
