If you're using an Nvidia GPU, have you recently start noticing high system RAM usage across all Unreal Engine 5 games ? While testing the launch version of Stalker 2, I saw extremely high RAM usage and the only things running are the game + Discord. I first noticed... show more

Yeah, very often UE5 games will use 20-23GB on my 32GB system. But then testing on my 16GB system it doesnt come close to maxing it out and I dont run into any RAM related issues. I actually first saw it in Diablo 4 (not UE5) where it'll reserve 80%+ of your system RAM and VRAM, regardless of how much you have.

it’s not just you’re system, happens to me too and I’ve seen others with high RAM usage in UE5 games

Been seeing a lot of ppl report odd frametime behavior in games after the latest security update from Windows

I noticed this too.

UE5 games generally eat up tons of a PC resources just like that.

I have 16GB RAM and with my experience with UE5 games it gets almost maxed out reaching like 15.6-15.8 GBs used. RAM usage usually gets accumulated too, so when boot the game up it's a bit lower. When it gets near to the limit I noticed some stutters here and there tbh.

Yep. I brought this up during the Gears Eday beta. MSI Afterburner showing 31GB system memory used, but running the in-game benchmark reported only 16GB in use by the game. I dunno what's going on, but all my system RAM was being used.

MSI Afterburner shows the RAM allocated/reserved by the game, while the benchmark shows how much RAM is actually being used. If it were really using 31GB of RAM, that would be a big problem.

In Gears of War E day and Halo remake is crazy.

on max settings this game allocated up to 24GB of VRAM on my 5090 (and used above 16GB too) if you have 4070 super, it will probably not fit and spill into RAM. I don't see high RAM usage but VRAM is frequently over 16GB in UE5 these days

I have 24 gb of ram and Marvel Rivals uses a fuck ton of it, sometimes I had to close discord cuz my ram was getting filled up 💀

dude go play #StarCitizen you need ATLEAST 32 GB RAM MINIMUM!!!! it will use 98% of it too the WHOLE TIME....Ive heard people say it uses over 60GB+ of RAM!!!! @RobertsSpaceInd !!! and it STILL RUNS LIKE TRASH!!!

Sure. Still getting good frames and games playable. I'll just be sure to not leave 20 chrome tabs open before gaming. 23GB being used is still within the specs they provided

Vibecoded Drivers ig

Idk I have 16gb ram and have no issues

I noticed that in Mortal Shell II recently and I thought it was just some Windows processes going crazy.

Forget about RAM usage. Why is the engine only utilizing 50% of your GPU? Looks like a serious bottleneck.

This, and games are ignoring things like half-refresh rate vsync or the monitor's lower than max refresh rate from the Nvidia Apps. I don't know what they did but it's very annoying.

32gb of RAM and yeah, almost every time it's from 19 to 23GB used

Can't speak for the other games, but this also happens on amd gpus in stalker

Thank you!❤️🙏 I noticed 30GB of RAM and 14900 Vram. This was not an issue I encountered before playing Stalker 2, despite having played for 250 hours.

@WARDOGS do be eating up 20+GB of ram at potato settings, latest driver 4060, Windows 10. Haven’t played much other UE5 games lately though.

I saw this in stalker 2 today, I was using 21gb at 1440p DLSS quality.

I know you are working on it, but does the recommended settings "improve" (like you can use higher settings) with this new update or does it stay almost the same?

This also happened in The Last of Us Remastered and Hogwarts Legacy, as far as I remember. So yeah, 16 GB has been dead for a while now.

Mortal Shell 2 consumindo mais de 20gbs.

Its just that UE5 games are ram whores and occupy much more than they actually need.

tbh AAA devs definitely know something we don't about upcoming hardware, even if they haven't said it out loud yet. it’s pretty obvious that’s where things are heading and that's why all these new games are starting to demand 32gb of ram as a baseline silent hill townfall etc

who the fuck benchmarks with discord open

yeah not only ue5 games, some of my ue4 and non UE games has this issue on my 32gb system, i even have to restart my pc to get the fresh room of my ram

time to switch to linux eh

Windows 11 by itself will use around 11-15gb of RAM. What I think is going on is that since RAM has gotten much faster with DDR5, developers learned they can offload textures in the RAM instead of just the VRAM without it affecting the performance too much. Doing so would drastically reduce stuttering in UE5 games.

On a system with 64GB of Ram, UE5 will use 22.5 GB just for the game. It does vary by title, but BL4, Halo, Any new game really ramps it right up.

It's Windows, not Nvidia. Amd it's not a recent issue either.

What does it look like for AMD users? This looks completely normal to me. Assuming there's at least 32GB here (and this is not just the RAM used by the game), I don't see a problem. Gears of War E-Day would run my (32GB) system up to 31GB only for it to smooth out around 18-22GB.

There was a comparison between the 9070 XT and 5070 Ti in Gears E-Day by Daniel Owen, and the 5070 Ti showed much higher RAM usage. So I think this might only be affecting Nvidia GPUs.

mine reached 29GB
