Ignoring #Afghanistan 🇦🇫 is not a solution. The most basic human right is the right to life. But current policy is contributing to a humanitarian catastrophe. We must start allowing the economy to function, and link improvements to that. Anything else is a mass death sentence.

It is the family members of murder victims and the survivors of violent crimes who have taught me that execution is not the solution. The death penalty mirrors the evil we hope to heal the world of. It does not heal the wounds of violence, but just inflicts new wounds, extends trauma, and creates a new set of victims. To be against the death penalty does not mean we are against justice, or that we believe that murder shouldn't have consequences... it's simply to say that we refuse to imitate evil.
