IL congressional representatives are denied entry inside the Broadview holding facility after two hours of knocking on their door. The group aimed to conduct an unannounced to check on the conditions of the detainees held there. A masked agent spoke through the gates.

Even after identifying themselves as members of congress @RepChuyGarcia @repdeliaramirez Rep. Danny Davis and Rep. Jonathan Jackson were not allowed inside the immigration holding facility. After almost two hours an agent posted a sign saying they need at least 72 notice.

@repdeliaramirez For context: members of Congress have the statutory authority to conduct unannounced visits to immigration detention facilities for oversight. According to the agent, however, Broadview is not a detention facility and therefore, they can deny entry.

@repdeliaramirez Rep. Davis said that people are possibly being kept in the facility illegally because it is not a detention facility, it’s a processing center. That violates the stature of the state law. They should not be held in there more than a few hours. Story to follow.
