I'm building an editor that turns one image into a full 2D sprite sheet. Image → 3D → rig → motion → 16-direction sprite sheet, all on one screen. Every enemy in Fire Field goes through it now. Full 5-minute walkthrough in the replies. #gamedev #SoloGameDev

Beautiful

Thank you!

I did this too but for 8 directions. I would do a final touchup with pixel art changes so it's like deadcells.

Thanks for the comment. I'm still feeling my way through this, honestly not sure where it ends up. But the pipeline itself works now, so I can see the road ahead. Once it's done I'd like to share what I learned.

Very nice, I would love this for my game projects.

Thanks. I'll post progress on my YouTube channel, and I'll let you know when it's ready to try.

I have banked resets of Astra, if you ever need some free tokens for your project, hit me up with a .MD and I'll pass it back to you

Keeping the door open for existing models and animations is a good call. That's the balance I want from a tool like this: save me the repetitive work, let me be fussy about the character.

Exactly! That's the balance I'm aiming for. Let the tool handle the repetitive stuff, and spend your time on the parts that actually make the character yours.

This looks awesome. Is this just a private app or will you be making it public?

Thank you! I'm planning to make it public. Right now, though, I'm still deciding whether to bundle it with Firefield, the game I'm working on, or sell it separately.

Well I'd like to try it. I've been fumbling with making sprites out of my own designs and it has been a mixed bag.

Same here, that's exactly why I built it. Your own design goes in as one image and comes out as the full sheet. I'll announce it on my YouTube channel when there's a build to try.👍

is this turning into a separate product or staying your unfair advantage for fire field

I do plan to make it available to everyone. Still deciding whether it ships inside Fire Field or as a separate tool. Thanks.

great work, this looks awesome!

Thank you! It's been a while! I actually bought the book you recommended to me before.👍

oh awesome! i hope you're enjoying it. this tool looks great, i had actually been considering building one myself because no one is doing end to end, so i'm glad to see someone else had the same idea!

Haha, I appreciate it! Hang tight, it's coming soon!🤣

Seeing the rig and sprite sheet in one workflow is a neat touch.

Thank you! It's so much easier when you can do it all in one go, right?

i'm doing 12 frame car turntables by hand for my game and this hurts to watch lol. do you touch up the frames after or is it straight from the pipeline?

パイプラインから出たままで、手直しはしていません。16方向の全コマをそのまま使っています👍

que buena pinta tiene eso, lo sacarás en algún momento?

Hey Swón! Thanks! If there's enough interest, I'd love to release it.

there are already several open source alternatives

Oh, I see! Thanks for the info.

THIS IS HUGE Maybe next project is for 3D 👀

Thank you! Since the motions are set in 3D partway through the process, you can use it for 3D as well.👍

you wrapped the 3D model api call inside your editor ? I mean for the modelling/rigging/animation process .

Thanks for the comment! The pipeline isn't finished yet, so I can't really say for sure at this point.💦

one image to full sprite sheet, huge

Right? The more I work on it, the more unbelievable it feels. From just one image, you get a full 360° view with every motion built in. Honestly, I'm amazed by it myself all over again!

This is actually really cool

Thank you!

So we can generate characters, objects and environments and directly use them in game engine through code ? So cool man, hifi 🙌

Thanks! Characters only for now, not objects or environments. You get both a rigged, animated 3D character (FBX, standard humanoid bones) you can drop into any engine, and a 2D sprite sheet if you want the retro look. No code involved, just files.

@Ravi_Teja_M2000 please remember to quote the sources, like for rigging probably skintoken, modeling i guess trellis2 or pixal3d, animation dunno probably from mixamo?... still interesting workflow going from 2d to 3d to 2.5d

@Ravi_Teja_M2000 Thanks, that's a fair point. The pipeline is still being worked out, so I'll share the details once it settles.

wait.. you use that for pixelart?

Not hand-drawn pixel art. The sprites are pre-rendered from 3D at a small size, the way late-90s isometric games did it. The retro look comes from the resolution and the 16 fixed directions.

Crazy

😂😂

insta follow. Great tool!!

Thanks for the follow!

how much for this bro ? or free?

I've pretty much decided on the price already. Honestly, it's going to be pretty cheap, an amount anyone can afford, so don't worry!

Cant wait to try!

Thank you! Just hang tight a little longer!🙏

cool

Thanks!!

Funny i built the same tool in june but i need to upgrade it 👀👏🔥

Oh nice, that's cool! Let's both keep pushing forward. Good luck with the upgrade!

Thanks I'll def follow your journey too 💯 Can't wait to see what you're cooking Imho the 2d to 3d to spritesheet is the most reliable workflow for animations

Such old school vibes

Thank you!

Thank you for the comment and for your interest! Everything is still very much trial and error at this stage, so I'm not able to give any answers yet. I'll be announcing more details on YouTube soon, so please stay tuned!

do you have access to test it?

Not yet! I'm planning to open up testing, but it'll take a bit more time. I'll be sharing progress updates on my YouTube channel, so feel free to follow along there in the meantime!

I'll do! Amazing work

Those look sick!

Hey, long time no see! How have you been? Yeah, doing everything by hand one by one for Firefield was getting way too tedious, so I'm building my own tool to make them all in one go.

Good good just been busy working, but still been following your progress! Hope your autumn sale is going great

now since you have the 3d initial character, you could also export a normals sprite sheet and use lighting so it actually looks 3d

Honestly, I had never heard of normal-map sprite sheets until now. Thank you for this, I'll dig into it properly. Appreciate the comment.🙏

i like the part where it turns a 3d asset into 2d sprites... but the generation from 2d to 3d and you are probably generating that 2d image as well .. that's just slop bro

Very Cool and Demo Game env is awesome - Is the Pipeline Opensource?

Thank you, I'm really glad you like it! As for open-sourcing the pipeline, nothing's decided yet, so I can't say for sure at the moment. Thanks again!

Also; I just realized your game was on Steam I seriously Love the Style of the game; It feels like a mix of Ultima, Hell Breath and Diablo 1

Thanks so much, glad you like it! I'll share the details of Miso Editor on my YouTube channel, so please hang tight a little longer. And I'm really happy you like the game too. It's still in Early Access and a work in progress, but if you enjoy it, that means a lot!

Awesome No Problem! be sure to toss your Youtube channel in your X bio when its running : )

Actually, the channel's already up and running! I just added the YouTube link to my profile. Thanks again!

This is awesome!

Thank you so much!
