Breaking news MAN ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTED BY SAPS MEMBER IN VIRAL VIDEO, PROBE UNDERWAY An investigation is underway following an incident in which a South African Police Service constable allegedly assaulted a member of the public, with a video of the incident widely circulated on social media. The incident is reported to have taken place on 02 April 2026 at the Volksrust Police Station in Mpumalanga. According to Mpumalanga SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, the matter is being treated with seriousness, and an internal investigation has already been instituted to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. “In addition to the internal investigation, a criminal investigation is also underway to ensure that all aspects of the matter are addressed transparently,” Mdhluli said. The Independent Police Investigative Directorate has also been notified and is expected to conduct a parallel investigation. Mdhluli said the involvement of IPID aligns with the SAPS commitment to accountability and transparency in policing. “The SAPS remains steadfast in promoting professionalism and upholding the Code of Conduct, which governs the behaviour of all members,” he said. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, has also weighed in on the matter. “The professional conduct of our members is of utmost importance, and we are committed to maintaining public trust. We are determined to act swiftly and decisively against any wrongdoing,” he said. Investigations remain ongoing.

Part of our problem is home affairs that is not interested to do the work some officials issue identification documents to people who runs illegal businesses in our city . The truth is that the City of Tshwane municipality has no powers on immigration issues that power is with home affairs and SAPS . Our metro police make arrests and the following day the same people are out without any accountability .

The number of informal settlements in the City of Tshwane have skyrocketed from 220 in 2019 to 575 as recorded this year. Tomorrow, at the City’s council meeting, we will be presenting a plan to provide dignity and a lifeline for residents who reside in informal settlements. The murders at Marry Me wouldn’t have happened had we as a government done our jobs to protect and safe guard our communities. Today, during the council meeting, we presented a draft budget for 2025/26 that will be fully funded and not backed by bank loans. This budget will benefit the residents of Tshwane as funds will be bolstered to improve service delivery. For the first time in years, the City will procure its own waste trucks and increase funding for the filling of key vacancies. Today, we conducted a special operation targeting Cemetery View and Plastic View Informal Settlements. We arrested over 90 illegal immigrants who are now being processed by Home Affairs. Deportations are expected in next few days following court approval. This is the beginning of a process to clean-up these areas. We have 800 South Africans who reside in Plastic View and they will be relocated by the City. Residents of Pretoria East have for years decried the lack of action pertaining to these informal settlements. We are glad that today the City was able to bring in support from SAPS and Home Affairs.
