I'm delighted the government has accepted my amendment to make hate crimes against LGBT+ and disabled people aggravated offences, and will now table an amendment in the House of Lords to make it happen. Here's a bit of my speech on why this change is so important:

Hate crimes against transgender, gay, and disabled people ruin lives and leave whole communities living in fear. From now on, hate against these groups will be treated as seriously as hate crimes based on race and religion.

I want to thank everyone who supported this campaign - especially @JacobCollierMP, @MarieTidball, and the 103 other cross-party MPs who backed my amendment. Also the amazing team at the Home Office for listening to why this change was needed. Equality has taken a step forward.

So everyone apart from the straight people ? What about if a member of the LGBT+, is shouting in the face of a heterosexual, because they are heterosexual ? Is that not a hate crime too ?

All Identity-based aggravated factors must be abolished. If two perpetrators commit the same crime with identical levels of malice, there is no rational reason for one to be more severe simply by the virtue of identities. This is a mutilation of justice.

What about the awkward boy who prefers books to sport and is mercilessly bullied and assaulted for being a ‘Speccie four-eyed’ Where is special laws? Why doesn’t he get protected? Assault is assault. If you cut him does he not bleed? Hate laws are divisive and wrong.

Being “LGBT” and being disabled are not the same thing. LGB is sexual orientation. T is a porn obsessed death cult Disabilities are real conditions which have nothing to do with sexuality or porn obsessed death cults.

What if a Muslim commits a hate crime against LGBT ? Will LGBT be charged and imprisoned for upsetting a Muslim? Or if an LGBT will violate a sharia law - will a Muslim be jailed for upsetting an LGBT?

Jake Paul said we need to update the Constitution because of the Second Amendment. I thought I knew where this was going. Then he said citizens may need drones, drone EMPs, RPGs, and anti-helicopter weapons. Not on my bingo card. But he accidentally made the purest 2A argument there is. Because anti-gun people love saying: “You can’t fight a tyrannical government with an AR-15.” Okay. Then let us have what the government has. That is the logical endpoint of their own argument. If the Second Amendment exists as a check on tyranny, then “the government has better weapons” is not an argument against the Second Amendment. It is an argument for taking it seriously. Where I split from Jake is simple: We do not need to rewrite the Second Amendment. We need to read it. “The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” Arms. It does not say pistols and shotguns only. So be honest: Did Jake Paul accidentally make the best pro-2A argument of the year?

We even have an amendment to the Public Procurement and Disposal Amendment Bill that gives priority to Kenyan firms when privatization or tendering occurs in Kenya. This is on the floor of the House. General Secretary of the Free Speech Union, Lord Young of Acton, asked the Justice Minister in the House of Lords to guarantee that at least people accused of speech crimes have a right to a jury trial, which is such an important bulwark of free speech. She declined. Trial by jury is a cornerstone of English liberty — especially free speech. David Lammy’s plans amount to the biggest assault on our liberty in 800 years. If the Government were serious about reducing delays and the court backlog, they’d stop creating so many new criminal offences -- 65 in the Crime and Courts Bill alone. If Lammy gets his way and jury trials are scrapped, you’re far more likely to be banged up for hurty words. We cannot let this happen.
