Russians are installing anti-aircraft missile complexes directly from helicopters on the roofs of high-rise buildings in Moscow It's great that this was filmed, because now high-rises are legitimate military targets. Let the Russians not cry about it later I recommend that the residents of these buildings dismantle these air defense systems themselves, as the authorities are putting them in danger by installing them on civilian structures

The same drone technology has been used repeatedly in Russia’s war on Ukraine, including attacks in the heart of Kyiv. After years of defending against them, Ukraine has developed some of the world’s most advanced counter-drone tactics, from low-cost interceptors to layered air defense systems. It did not go well. Take a look: 🔵 first, a Pantsir misses the same drone twice — and the drone keeps flying anyway; 🔵 then several more air defense missiles miss their targets, streaking across the sky above Moscow and the Sadovod market; 🔵 next, downed drones and debris begin falling onto civilian sites; 🔵 and in the final clip, an air defense missile appears to hit a drone — but even that is not enough to bring it down. The Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow this morning was apparently the largest of the entire war so far -- clearly they have been stockpiling for a while. It also included missiles, though they were all shot down as far as I can tell. Most of the 500+ drones were intercepted (1600+ total, a third aimed at Moscow), but several impacted residential buildings and the Moscow Oil Refinery. At least two civilians were killed in Moscow oblast.

The Telegram channel “Byt Ili” conducted a detailed analysis of the performance of Russian air defense during yesterday’s Ukrainian drone raid on Moscow. It was the first time that the operation of Russian air defense could be observed almost in real time. Key conclusions from the analysis: “Perhaps the most surprising thing for me in today’s strike on the Moscow oil refinery is the number of missed interceptions by Russian air defense systems against Ukrainian UAVs. In this compilation, I’ve specifically cut together the misses by ‘Pantsirs’. The selection is not complete. For the first time, we were able to observe in real time how Russian air defense operates during large-scale drone raids. And I have no rational explanation for why it performs THIS poorly. Yan Matveev described it most succinctly: ‘Air defense systems were deployed right in the city, missiles are flying chaotically in all directions and missing their targets; the threat from them is no less (and perhaps even greater) than from the drones themselves.’ But this still doesn’t answer the question: why is it like this? After all, these are UAVs flying at low speed — not cruise missiles, and certainly not ballistic ones. This can hardly even be described as a combined strike designed to overwhelm air defenses. The only fast-moving targets here were a few jet-powered UAVs like “Bars,” and there were very few of them. This is nowhere near the level of overload seen in Ukrainian air defenses during Russian combined missile strikes. And yet, even a strike of this scale creates chaos and confusion for Russian air defenses. It also leads to the conclusion that ‘Pantsir’ systems perform rather poorly against UAVs. Out of about 1400 to 1500 recorded drone attacks on Moscow, 93% were shot down on the region's outer defense lines, 6% in zones closer to the city, and only one drone (0.07%) penetrated Moscow itself. Against thousands of launches, this is negligible. Cost calculations for this grand PR excercise are also bleak. The Ukrainian FP1 drone, the most common and cheapest offensive type, costs about $55000 per unit. 1400 such drones would cost roughly $77 million. Claims by Western media that 40% of Russian oil refining capacity was disabled are also, as Ive often written, massively exaggerated. Real damage never exceeded 13% (before rapid repairs) with annual fuel production losses insignificant (around 1.7%). Russian air defences are now unrivalled in their capabilities and experience. The lies in the West continue. Ukraine is losing badly.
