I'm still very happy with Rust native apps using It's been a big week for Kiru development. Added in AutoCaption feature, which automatically adds captions based on word timings which can be styled and viewed in real time. All done through the GPU

i quite enjoy iced for small things too. what was the big lacking architecture/feature in iced for this use case?

So far iced has been great! Immediate mode has been a challenge in some cases, but I’ve managed to overcome it with Lazy and stacking views.

Oh, I might have mixed something up, I thought I saw a post from you about switching to gpui? It might have been someone else, was a random thing in my feed 🤣

Haha almost, I switched from GPUI to Iced.

oh, wow :D i must have imagined the direction. enjoying the simpler API I guess?

I am, although I did prefer GPUI as it’s more like a game engine, but the lack of custom GPU shaders ended up being a roadblock to a lot of the features I wanted to implement.

I'll allow it.

dude! This looks awesome!

Thank you!

Are you building a Descript/Gling competitor?

Pretty much! I have big frustrations with both of them performance wise, and theres also some features I really want for my own workflow.

nice, very ambitious! can't wait to see how it turns out

It’s available now (although very much beta beta beta lol) Let me know if you want a free trial!

Looks cool. When you launch it?

It’s available now for macOS and windows! (Linux support is there but there may be dragons).

Thanks. It is what I needed for my channel. Will tske s look when I do next video.

Very interesting and cool project you go there. Good stuff man

Have you tried GPUI?

I have! I really enjoyed the framework but it doesn’t support custom GPU shaders which basically makes it unsuitable for a video editor

Proud of you bud
