In VRChat's current open beta, PC desktop users can try out the "Selfie Expression" feature, which adds webcam based head, mouth, eye, hand and finger tracking, so you can move around like this without needing VR (all you need is a webcam)

You can find the option to enable it here in the main menu Tracking&IK settings page. That little VRC+ icon is because this is considered "early access" for VRC+ for now but we intend to take it to general access eventually

Would it be possible to use an iphone with arkit as a webcam and have this tracking?

Selfie Expression doesn't include any specific support for ARKit, but if you're able to hook up your iPhone to your Windows PC as a webcam, VRChat should be able to process the image.

While this is great for a quick way to make things work while not paying for extra synching, I am scared people will find this good enough and will limit the individual expression down the line, Could we have proper support for people to author FT content instead of retro-fitting systems that were not designed for this in the first place?

I don't think "instead of" is best way to approach, since legacy avatar support helps many people, but I see your concern and high fidelity is also under consideration!

Still can't blink individual eyes in SDK 3, as it was in SDK 2?

Yeah, still can't... combining those in SDK3 is coming back to haunt us

Would such a thing ever be possible for like PCvr people? Since like my index will never have this shit.

I believe there's a project working on using the Index cameras to perform hand tracking and pass that to a SteamVR driver. In VR if a SteamVR device has skeletal hand tracking, VRChat will use that on the avatar
