i'm working on an optional graphical overhaul for DBFZ Kai , starting with a new character shader + retexturing to be closer to the manga. i'm also working on completely hand-drawn and reimagined character portraits to fit my vision

of note: i'm trying to evoke toriyama's style over the ages, not any specific era. each character will take inspiration from their specific era, but i also want them to feel somewhat cohesive

@DBFZKai I mean .... wasn't what arcsys did already peak? Like ... 1 for 1 there a videos of how close things were to it's source material? I guess I've been spoiled by that and also by things like Dio/Yami Yugi DBZF guy. At least at the moment I don't really see the difference.

@DBFZKai 1. arcsys are indeed masters of their craft, but i want to celebrate toriyama's art instead of the anime 2. this is literally a few days of work, I have much more planned

@DBFZKai I saw a post recently about the whole DBZFKai thing as a whole and I'd have to say, good on you dude. I don't play DBZF anymore, but it's cool that the FGC for DBZF is doing something because of their love for the game.

@DBFZKai Is this trying to repicate the digital manga colors or the kazenban watercolors that toriyama colored himself? i always wanted to know if texture filtering to look like the watercolors would be possbile ngl

@DBFZKai i hope its possible, i LOVE the watercolors and how they look ,, no wonder i try to color like those with torigus' watercolors would be fun if you got all the accurate colors n stuff like gohan's green gi from the saiyan saga colored cover from the kazenban for at least a costume

@DBFZKai this isn't perfect, but i added a sort of watercolory effect to the shader. you can see it on goku's gi for example

@DBFZKai oooooooo its pretty subtle but i like it!!!! i suppose the next step would be to get the textured look of the watercolors? since now that you got the watercolor cel shading "outline" going it feels like the natural next step ^-^

@DBFZKai Looks good, is this just planned to be a full replacement or could it be like the Goku day colors as a slot at the end? Imo if we could add color slots that’d be more ideal to offer your shader and the normal together.
