Fascinating. I went to an almost all white school in rural Western New York in the 60s/70s yet I learned about Frederick Douglas, Harriet Tubman, The Tuskegee Airman, and George Washington Carver. There were probably others I've forgotten. The emphasis was on their contributions to society and not much on the color of their skin.
