Imagine seeing this live

I think I understand now why so many exuberant colorful TV shows were in the '70s

Most people back then had black and white TVs, so did not get to notice the difference live. It didn’t not make much sense to buy a more expensive color tv when broadcasting had not made the switch yet.

@LoveNOLA4ever I’m reminded of the opening minutes of The Wizard of Oz, when it suddenly transitions from b&w to color!

I wonder how many people who bought an expensive "color" TV on sale from that new store one town over were absolutely livid at that moment.

@emilynussbaum The sitcom Aunty Jack had the first national color broadcast in Australia, and they worked it into the story cleverly:

Why would people have color TV if the transmission was in black and white? I doubt anyone saw it. Color TV became mainstream only in the 80s

Great moments in history

imagine seeing this live but owns a black and white tv

Here in France the guys were in tuxedos so black and white and the set was mildly colored. Wasn't born then but the sequence was heavily mocked and broadcast again over the years.

@colorize_bot can you color this?
