There's three issues now. Obviously, mortgage is number one, it always has been in driving decision purchase. But there's two other things that have come out of nowhere, particularly in places like California. They are Insurance and taxes. So you, you combine the insurance cost with the taxes plus the mortgage, affordability is down about 40%. In other words, you gotta buy a house with 40% less square footage and pay the same amount on it. That means that classic three-bedroom, 2,500 square foot deal that you could pick up for $1.2 million, forget about it. You're living in a trailer home now for the same price it cost in California. That's a big part of the market. Same issues in Texas, same issues in certain parts of Florida.

Gabor Maté just blew my mind on Mel Robbins’ podcast with one simple truth: “No siblings grow up in the same house. No siblings have the same parents.” He explained it so clearly, birth order changes everything, parents are in totally different life stages with each kid, money stress comes and goes, and every child’s unique temperament means they experience the exact same parents completely differently. Even loving parents show up differently for each child. That’s why two siblings can remember the same childhood so wildly differently — one says it was fine, the other carries deep wounds. This explains so many family conflicts and “why don’t you remember it like I do?” arguments. It brings real compassion into how we see our siblings (and our own parenting). I’ve seen this play out in my own family and it instantly softened how I view old resentments. We really weren’t raised in the same house after all. 🦊 (when we were trainees) one day, the manager suddenly called and said “yeonjun, soobin, taehyun, beomgyu, kai” come upstairs 👤 you felt it, right? 🦊 we had no idea 🦊 they were like “starting today, you’re the debut line up” 👤 how did you feel? 🦊 i was so excited, i texted my mom like “mom, i made it to the debut line up” 🦊 i was really overwhelmed 🐰 i didn’t imagine it either because…i didn’t have a high ranking in the monthly evaluations, i was like “let’s see how far i can make it” but as soon as i became a part of the debut line up, i was like i need to go all in on this and i dropped out of school and worked really hard

NEW! The Mayor Katie B. Wilson was boots on the ground this morning after suddenly postponing the scheduled encampment sweep. Two schools of thought were in attendance, one being her own that we need more shelter and housing and the other being our own offering same-day treatment and available recovery housing. While we are encouraged Wilson is seeing for her own eyes what the situation looks like, she didn’t show interest when Timothy Emerson offered rides to treatment to those in attendance. We will ask for a follow up meeting.

A famous psychological concept called Learned Helplessness helps explain this. In one demonstration, a predator fish was placed in a tank with smaller fish separated by a transparent barrier. Each time it tried to attack, it hit the invisible wall. After many failed attempts, the predator eventually stopped trying. Then the scientists removed the barrier. The smaller fish swam freely in front of the predator, but it never attacked again. Its brain had already learned that trying was useless, even though the obstacle was gone. > Humans can fall into the same mental trap. Repeated failures can teach the brain that effort leads nowhere, creating invisible barriers in our own minds. But the hopeful part is that the brain works both ways.
