On the topic of excellent portrayals of military tactics in Japanese animation. There's a Shin Chan movie set in the Sengoku period. The field battle opens with ashigaru exchanging fire from far away, under orders, they rush into a more effective range under the cover of stationary shields made with bamboo. One side get's the better of the exchange, using guns, bows and slings which pushes the enemy's shot out of position. This in turns allows the pikemen to advance unopposed, and a push of pike ensues. The way the pikes interact with each other is based on a primary source written in the 1660s. It is in no way indicative of the average pike to pike encounter, but it is a valid tactic. And it all ends with the losing army breaking into a flight, instead of fighting to the last man. It's great to see mostly accurate gear (if a bit too standardized) accurate weapons, officers leading the fight and guns, ofc. This is a child's movie. An ok story, but has memorable battle scenes. Putting effort into these aspects of a movie never goes to waste. England's Highest Point - Scafell Pike "If you don't succeed at first, you must try try again". Lucy and I went to the glorious Lake District to conquer Scafell Pike, England's highest point. Having chosen 'The Corridor Route' due to its gentler gradients, we realised that we had chosen a pathway that involved exposed scrambling, cliff edges, and extreme scree. Understanding our mistake, we decided to camp at a beautiful mountain lake (Styhead Tern), and returned the following day to attempt the climb again along the 'Wasdale Route', a very steep but much shorter, less technical climb. Here we met Peter of Norwich, who was climbing to wish England success by blowing his trumpet and praying for the country from the mountain top. Which was amazing. The country and all of its beauty needs protecting There is a reason for everything. "If you don't succeed at first, you must try try again". Scafell Pike - Done - Conquer your fears and never give up. Enjoy the scenery, love your country, this is England, please repost.

"Come on.. you can't be that dumb", Kerry Roberts proclaims as she attempts to explain how silly it sounds for the cocktail glass to have been found by John O'Keefe. You're right Kerry, it's ridiculous. It's ridiculous to think the same hand that supposedly received a direct hit with an SUV (that had received no injuries from this very hit) somehow managed to grasp this cocktail glass as it broke. This same body then did a spin, with the broken glass in hand, got launched 10 feet, and said glass landed right next to the body. Or does it make more sense that a body holding a cocktail glass received a strike on the back of the head and the glass broke as the hand released the grip on the glass as the body fell. This wouldn't be the first murder where evidence was placed to look staged. Riddle me this Kerry... Is this why, til this very day, the entirety of the glass has never been found? Is this why the glass on the bumper did not match? Or the majority of the glass at the scene did not match? Where's the rest of the glass, Kerry?

There is a scene from the movie "Ballad: Na mo naki koi no uta" (which seems to adapt the same plot as Shin Chan) where they depict the exact same form of pike fighting. This is based on a historical source ( Zōhyō Monogatari) written in the 1660s, that instructs us to "not only thrust" as "it's better to strike. Raise your pike higher than the opponent's and strike in unison". This would definitely not be standard practice for most of the sengoku jidai. My friend Gunsen History will like me to state that, this advice is from a time where pikemen were there mainly to support the gunmen, and thus wouldn't take the central part of the fighting. It would make sense then, for these men to not be as used to fighting and to develop some sort of drill to effectively end the fights without a prolongued engagement. Still fascinating to see an interpretation of a primary source portrayed onscreen.
