In doing so, it helped connect research, industry and capital, enabling ideas to evolve into scalable products and enterprises. The impact has been substantial. iTNT Hub has supported more than 2,800 startups, connected nearly 7,000 researchers, facilitated partnerships with over 200 institutions, established collaborations with more than 80 incubation centres—including 20 international partnerships—and enabled over 10,000 entrepreneurs to benefit from its ecosystem. Impact After Term | 16 : Transforming Madurai into a Regional Technology Hub Madurai has long stood as one of the world's oldest living cities and a symbol of Tamil civilisation. As the elected representative of Madurai Central, Dr. PTR believed that the city's future should be defined not only by its rich history, but also by technology, innovation and knowledge-based employment. As Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services, he worked towards extending Tamil Nadu's IT growth beyond Chennai, with a special focus on transforming Madurai into a regional technology and innovation hub. This vision was pursued through a combination of institutional investments, industry partnerships and strategic interventions. India’s handloom heritage is stepping into a new era of innovation. Hon’ble Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh inaugurated the Centre of Excellence for Handloom Technology (CoE-HT) at IIT Delhi, in the august presence of Smt. Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Dr. M. Beena, Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Smt. Amrit Raj, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) along with senior officials from the Ministry of Textiles and IIT Delhi. The Centre will serve as a national hub for research, innovation and digital technologies to strengthen India’s handloom sector. The event also witnessed the launch of five key initiatives — Handloom 4.0, Handloom e-Vidya, HandloomX, Kalagriha Handloom Studio, and Threads of Valour — aimed at enhancing productivity, sustainability, entrepreneurship and global growth. What does the university of the future look like? According to Mr Sanjeev Sanyal, member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India, IIT Madras offers a glimpse. Speaking on the ANI Podcast with Ms Smita Prakash, he described IIT Madras as “the most interesting intellectual cluster in India right now,” pointing to its vibrant ecosystem of research, deep-tech innovation and entrepreneurship. From brain-mapping and Agnikul’s space rockets to e-planes, drone taxis and indigenous marine-engine development, the Institute is creating an environment where ideas move from research to real-world applications. Mr Sanyal also highlighted a key strength: learning beyond the classroom. With laboratories, prototyping facilities, research projects and startups on campus, students gain experience by building, testing and innovating.
