So after I retired from the Navy, I took a job as a overseas contract pilot. I flew a lot of ISR. We supported troops on the ground and a lot of TICS. Another operations I was able to support some of the guys that I had been in the teams with, and it was pretty special. I remember when we got the first camera on one of our planes in Afghanistan everyone wanted to see the usual things: a mouse, a cat, a dog and maybe some other cool animal. But one night cemented the fact that Afghanistan will never ever get out of the first or second century; I saw a woman get up, walk out to the rock front yard, hike up her Burka, drop a steamer, and then walk back to her family that was sleeping with the animals under a ruthless stable. I always say they just surrender to the strongest power in the region at the moment. They probably don’t know that they are part of a country let alone a region. They just know that that group of rocks that dry river bed and that Gregory tree has been part of their tribe since the dawn of time and that’s their boundaries.

I was in the Korngal Valley Afghanistan from 09-2010 and he’s 100% spot on our first day there they burnt a woman at the stake for rumors of her speaking to a man from another village. These people kill any outsiders even if there from neighboring villages

My friend served over there and he said they installed toilets and everyday they’d find rocks in the commodes and finally they asked someone to demonstrate how they use the toilet and they grabbed rocks to wipe their asses and threw them in the toilet.

Yeah, they’re primitive. But some how they kicked our asses right the fuck out of there.
