🗣️ Important reminder: All MPs can now correct the official record when they make a mistake. This improvement to the parliamentary correction system comes after campaigning from Full Fact. We hope to see our politicians lead by example.

"make a mistake"? You mean when they lie? When they lie at the despatch box, when they lie to the whole of parliament and when they lie to the people of this country. They lie, and no amount of fussing over neck wear is going to change that!

Could you correct the record that you are independent fact-checkers. It should really say left-wing aligned fact-checkers.

Do they have to do it verbally in the house so everyone can hear it

@emmamaxwell12 Yes but in the case of the Liz Truss tenure as PM the facts as stated were 💯correct. It was a disaster.

So it's ok to lie and deceive as long as when you're caught, you say "oops". Nice one, Full fact!

Let’s see if the Government do this. If they don’t then no change

MPs should have to correct the record by standing up and speaking.

Let's be honest the Tories triggered this their whole game is based on lies and spin the speaker cannot be expected to know every detail but each session should be scrutinised with pressure applied, good first step that needs taking seriously.

@annalouisedixon Does this mean an MP can correct in Hansard without making the correction in the House? That would mean most people who heard the original false claim would never hear the retraction. Bit like a Daily Mail splash being corrected in a hidden away paragraph
