“Work has been suspended at a major wind farm project south west of Warwick after storms snapped a wind turbine blade. McIntrye Wind Farm recently connected some of its turbines to the grid, those works are on hold as it investigates the incident.” “The 458MW Coopers Gap wind farm in south west Queensland, the newest and biggest wind project built to date in Australia – is to undergo major repairs after faults were found in its commissioning process. AGL, which operates the $850 million project and is a joint owner through the Powering Australia Renewables Fund, said in a statement that the blades of one of the 123 turbines will have to be replaced entirely, while GE Catcon is also going to replace “generators” – referring to the equipment in the nacelle at the top of the wind tower – in a further 50 turbines.” •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Not only are wind farms unreliable in terms of wind dependent generation. They break easily as we saw last week on the Darling Downs. If the blades on a wind farm can’t survive a summer storm on the Darling Downs they will be useless. This is just another example of wind farms being unreliable. A few years ago wind farm had to replace 50 out of 123 turbines just after it was commissioned. Australia cannot not afford to be pursuing Net Zero policies being pushed by the two major parties. We should focus on using our coal, uranium and gas resources instead of imported materials. Came across this awesome innovation to harness the power of the wind through tulip shaped wind turbines ! Flower Turbines, based in the US and the Netherlands is installing small flower shaped windmills which pose no danger to birds and other wildlife, particularly in urban settings. The company claims that they create very low noise which is undetectable to humans. This “eco-art” turbine is supposedly cost effective & easy to install making wind energy available for everybody. We must look at these options at #TNClimateMission

Major wind turbine manufacturers have been hit by an asbestos scandal. At Australia's $4 billion Golden Plains wind farm, testing on turbines has come back positive. Units are now quarantined and the manufacturer is launching global checks across its supply chain. This follows the asbestos found at a number of Chinese turbine manufacturers. Serious environmental concerns are now mounting. Wind blades can't be recycled, not economically or at scale. So tens of thousands of tons of blades are dumped every year, buried in pits with endless more coming as first-generation turbines hit their end of life, which is typically just 15 years. An industry sold as clean is leaving mountains of toxic waste that can't be recycled.

ZLH🚀: yes, this is the motor of the wind turbine, located at the highest point of the turbine shaft. these are the blades. they look small now, but in reality, when I went to the wind turbine manufacturing plant, it was about 80 meters long. really huge. and the proportions might not be accurate. when we stood below it, it was incredibly impressive. it works like this: the wind comes from this direction and drives the blades to rotate. then the motor converts that kinetic energy into electrical energy. there are cables below that can directly transmit the electricity to a substation, where it's stepped up or down in voltage, and then sent to places on land where the electricity is used. that's how a wind turbine works. 👤: it's a very meaningful souvenir. ZLH🚀: yes. 👤: where are you planning to put it? ZLH🚀: before I brought this with me, I usually keep it next to my computer.

It’s -30 degrees here in MT at the wind farm in Judith Gap this morning, and not a single wind turbine is turning. Coal, oil, and natural gas are necessary now and for the foreseeable future to supply our base load electric needs!

Authorities now want independent testing of soil, vegetation, and water around wind farms. Turbine blades spend decades exposed to rain, hail, ice, UV, and mechanical stress. They erode and crack, with old blades cut up and buried. We now await the test results to see exactly how much BPA escapes into the environment.
