In 2007, physicist Freeman Dyson wrote an essay called “Our Biotech Future” for The New York Review. In it, he wrote: “I see a bright future for the biotechnology industry when it follows the path of the computer industry…becoming small and domesticated rather than big and centralized.” Dyson had... recently visited the Philadelphia Flower Show, “the biggest indoor flower show in the world, where flower breeders from all over the world show off the results of their efforts.” And he pondered a future where genetic engineering would enable these breeders to make entirely new types of flowers, unencumbered by the biological limits of evolution. It seems that Dyson’s “biotech future” is now becoming reality. Nick Desnoyer, a postdoctoral fellow in the United Kingdom, has already designed and created more than a dozen bespoke flowers. Desnoyer imagines phenotypes in his head and then uses a combination of breeding, CRISPR, and pathogens to manifest those phenotypes in his flowers. He’s currently working to add new colors to his design palette, including streaks of yellow, amber, purple, and green. All of his flowers are sculpted on nights and weekends, after lab mates have shuffled home for the night. Happy birthday to the legend that is Pat McAfee Everything he does is inspirational, including his insane generosity along the way. He doesn’t show everybody all of it. In December, Pat helped Luke and his family go to a Colts game without the risk of getting sick. In January, Nick sent Pat a video recreating one of his OSU calls from a Field Pass. He had just completed his cancer treatment. Pat decided to give him tickets to the national championship. Watching Pat grind his ass off to make the world a better place is the honor of a lifetime. More life, more everything 🤟

Claude Monet painted the same stretch of cliff more than ninety times. The place is Étretat, a small fishing village on the coast of Normandy, where the chalk cliffs fall into the sea in great arches and a single spire of rock, the Aiguille, stands alone in the water. Monet had known the place since childhood. He grew up in Normandy, and these cliffs were among the first landscapes he ever saw... He returned to paint them again and again. He worked through the 1880s in front of the same rock formations, and across that time he produced more than ninety canvases of them: the cliffs at dawn, at sunset, under storm, under calm, in winter light and in the gold of a clear evening. In his letters to Alice, the woman he would later marry, he described the agony of it: the weather turning, the tide rising, the sun moving, the colour he had begun to capture vanishing before he could finish. He often worked on several canvases at once, switching between them as the conditions changed, racing each one against the hour. In a letter to his friend Frédéric Bazille he wrote: "It is beautiful here in Etretat. Every day I discover even more beautiful things. It is intoxicating me, and I want to paint it all, my head is bursting. I want to fight, scratch it off, start again, because I start to see and understand. It seems to me as if I can see nature and I can catch it all." The cliffs of Étretat had stood for millions of years and would look, to most people, the same on any given day. Monet saw that they were never the same even for two minutes. He stood on that shore and tried to hold, on canvas, something that exists only for an instant and then is gone forever. And that's exactly what those paintings really are: 90 attempts to keep a single, vanishing moment of light from disappearing. As Dylan Thomas once wrote: "Do not go gentle into that good night. Realizing people might not have realized that by "flower game" I mean this end screen is a DIRECT reference to the book of unveiling in Destiny 2, which itself refers to a modified version of John Horton Conway's Game of Life; the book refers to this as The Flower Game, a zero-player game where the only move is the initial set up of the pieces and their behaviors. I think if this Durandal is the one from the end of Marathon Infinity, then perhaps he's found a way to influence the Flower Game, and is using that influence to re-write the universe to create a reality that allows his escape from reality itself.

Met this guy yesterday night on my charity run. I give away all my clothes in the beginning of every year. After the donation him and I had a great chat then took his number. He is an entrepreneur, he just got that electric bike for deliveries and opened a new company a month ago to try cultivate his future. What an amazing human being. Sharing this because of the inspiration Ive drawn from this, most importantly this taught me without courage we are nothing, the courage to fight for your space in the world. Happy New Year❤️

It’s been an outrageous weekend for Vanderbilt Baseball 2026 commit RJ Cope, a 6-foot-8 first baseman and lefty with top-of-scale raw juice from the left side at the plate. The big man is 10-for-16 with a homer, double, four walks to two Ks and three stolen bases. It’s a no-doubt power over hit profile but he’s done an outstanding job of waiting for his pitch and depositing it in gaps like in the video below when he put a defensive two-strike swing on a ball to cash in runs for his team in a critical spot. All of this and Cope is still new to hitting. His potential is off the charts with the bat.

If you are going to see Noah Kahan in Fenway this week you are in for one. An artist in his prime immersed in his most emo locale of New England (Kahan is from Vermont). It is, undoubtedly, the best place to see him. His songwriting, voice, energy, showmanship, will never be better than it is now. He played 13 songs from his new album and the crowd knew all the words. When many artists play new songs at concerts people go to the bathroom. Kahan fans are TRUE fans. His dark, expressive features and easy charm fills Fenway--and he has a great rapport with his excellent band. "Paul Revere", "Orange Juice", ect. He played 26 songs in the rain and they all went over the monster (Except "Downfall"--one of my favs on new album. Needs to be more intimate, IMO) There were brief chit chats, great pacing, NO POLITICS, and fireworks at the end. A celebration of his sincere gratitude with a New England video travel log behind him. The video screens and backdrops were artfully and tastefully done. Smart, fun, energetic, production. This young generation of New Englanders has their James Taylor. (I would have loved to hear a JT cover last night.) A voice for a generation that will have staying power. Bravo, Noah Kahan

➡️ The ZANU fighter was just defeated by a 60-year old guy. 😌 This guy, Themba Gorimbo, had the support of most Zimbabweans when he entered the UFC, because – what a great achievement and representation for our country! 👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾 🇿🇼 Then, he made the quintessential error that many shallow Zimbabweans who find fame MAKE – he involved himself in regime politics ... because he saw it as a way to make a quick fortune. 💰💰 He started to ride high on ARROGANCE, and use his platform to insult and mock the opposition movement while promoting ED and ZANU PF regularly. He is especially known for stalking Winky D, and posting negative comments and mockeries about him, in order to please his ZANU masters. He thought that if he placed himself on the buttered side 🧈🍞 – the OPPRESSOR’S side - then he would be on the fast track to wealth, freebies and trinkets. 💵 Amateur mistake. When you’re a professional athlete there is no upside to playing politics. 🤷🏾‍♂️ You’ll just alienate many supporters unnecessarily, and attract controversy. You also draw negative attention to yourself internationally. MMA is a global sport and UFC is the pinnacle of the sport. So then he started losing supporters and attracting criticism ... but continued on his arrogant high horse, believing that his commitment to ZANU would pay off. Then when was CHOKED OUT in his last fight and lost consciousness in front of the entire world 😴- he thereafter had a "Damascus moment" when he realized that HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of UFC fans around the world were joyous about his humiliation! 😃 Especially when at one point he enjoyed widespread support and a growing fanbase - even the Rock had given him a house in the early days ... before Gorimbo showed himself to be an arrogant, toxic chump. 🤦🏾‍♂️ Then after being choked out he tried to “CHANGE” and win people over again, and started becoming anti-Zanu, etc. And it has worked for some people, but for a lot of OTHER people, including me (who was initially a HUGE fan), the damage had been done... 🙅🏾‍♂️ I always support Zimbabwean athletes and teams PASSIONATELY 🇿🇼 – but this guy has shown his true colours, and I find him to be unsavoury... He’s someone who tried to use his platform to benefit from the REGIME. He supported OPPRESSION and mocked the suffering of Zimbabweans, and efforts of the opposition. He is NOT a good guy. 😏 He is only now pretending to be in support of the PEOPLE because he has seen how supporting dictators will negatively affect his MMA career. It actually may be too late for him to redeem himself because even on the MMA twitterverse, I see a LOT of people from around the world posting negatively about his arrogance. They are also calling him a SCAMMER because of the library he had said he was building “in his village” and apparently people donated money, but there is ZERO library in existence 🤔- and when he has been pressed to explain he has been saying to critics that he built ¾ of the library and then he had to tear it down for some reason... 👀 I will always view him as a “ZANU fighter” because that’s what he proudly was for a long time, and has now realized his miscalculation ... and trying to pretend to be otherwise. The Zimbabwean Senate has voted in favour of the controversial Constitution Amendment Bill (No. 3) by 75 votes to 4, with one abstention. The opposition CCC, which has 27 senators in the 80-member chamber, voted alongside ZANUPF.
