“The slippery slope argument was the argument of choice for conservatives… polygamy as bogeyman was used against gay marriage for so long that I didn’t want to be seen as lending credence to that argument. Once the legal right was established…it makes sense now to push for it.”
The slippery slope is not theoretical. It’s the engine of leftist politics, it’s just that they refer to it as a “horizon”, rather than a “slope”.
They don't know when to stop but they also can't agree on a direction. While this guy went for polygamy, the rest of the left went for removing age of consent and destroying gender realism.

It ends up being that every progressive instinctively signs on to every ridiculous agenda that any other progressive can come up with as part of this intersectionality play. There are 50 disparate agendas you have to sign up to because pushback means ostracization

I think there was a genuine mix. Teddy Olson, who argued the case, not only contended that this wouldn't reach beyond same-sex marriage, but meant it. He also felt that religious liberty should not be compromised (a defense of the baker). But activists always want MORE.
Since there is no logical stopping point for the Left, we know what that means, and we're wholly justified in calling them on it. The worst thing that the hardest right-winger says about Leftists and kids? Yeah, they're for that. They're just not telling you. Yet.
Huge part of the whole ideology is change for the sake of change.

if Obergefell stands then by its legal argument polygamous marriage, indeed polyculous intersectional marriages, must also be allowed. You cannot stop the polys (polies? poliz? polis? polizei?) without ditching Obergefell. They painted themselves into a corner. There is no escape
