In Alberta a single judge has just basically tossed out the separatist petition of over 300,000 signatures. Danelle Smith says that they will be appealing it as she believes there has been “an error in law” and it’s anti-democratic. This is going to get ugly.

Quebec was able to hold not 1 but 2 REFERENDUMS. There were no issues on treaty rights there. Should Alberta not be given the same rights as Quebec? If not, why not? Are we not a democracy with constitutional rules that are consistent between provinces? If not, why should Alberta stay?

Her ruling is invalid. If Quebec is allowed to hold separation referendum, so can any other province.

Wait a second. Carney is saying we’re leaving the US relationship and going to become Europeans. There was no consultation with Canadians. So why does it apply to Alberta to have consultations with everybody

Please stop calling it a “separatist” petition. It is an Independence Petition. It’s not a negative movement. It is an overwhelmingly positive movement of the people of Alberta standing up for themselves. We never had a say in whether or not we became a province. We are now having our say. We will be an independent nation. We are different, culturally, historically, and morally. We want self determination. And we are going to have our independence, regardless of what some Liberal appointed judge thinks. We are entitled to self determination.

This judge has made it ugly. People in Alberta should be more demanding to achieve independence if this is now the Canadian way.

The judge did not throw out the petition... We signed a petition so the cabinet and Smith would call a referendum...which she said she would if the numbers where achieved... We did that... There has always been a duty by the government to consult with FNs before the referendum...one it turned from a citizens initiative to a government referendum.. There is no need for @ABDanielleSmith To appeal other than to stall...we are exactly where we should be and she needs to add it to the referendum
