The comment comes after President Trump doubled down on his intention of annexing Greenland. The Danish defense ministry confirmed on Wednesday the existence of a 1952 rule that forces soldiers to "immediately" counter-attack invading forces without awaiting orders. "The defence ministry also said that the rule 'remains in force' when asked about its status," the Telegraph reported. On Tuesday, the White House announced that Trump is considering acquiring Greenland and utilizing the U.S. military if needed. OPERATION GREENLAND: Denmark rushed troops & its navy into Greenland over a fictional US invasion. The irony is brutal. The US already protects Greenland by treaty. Denmark is the only one actually invading. Danish leaders ordered a major military deployment to Greenland, including a full platoon & most of their navy. The justification was fear of a US invasion even though US forces are already stationed there under treaty obligations to defend the island. Instead of coordination, Denmark chose escalation. Let’s clarify the Greenland position. Greenland is a semi-autonomous territory of Denmark. It had recent elections in which there was ZERO support for Greenland to be part of the US. The JD Vance visit to Greenland yesterday was unwelcome. Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen rightly accused the US of exerting "unacceptable pressure" She said in a statement: “I have to say that it is unacceptable pressure being placed on Greenland and Denmark in this situation. You cannot make a private visit with official representatives from another country, when the acting Greenlandic government has made it very clear that they do not want a visit at this time,” Vance and his wife had to settle for visiting the US base, but still spewed Trump’s demands. This is clearly an open act of aggression towards an autonomous territory who have made it clear Greenland is not for sale. Just as an aside, if it was for sale, Denmark would be forced to ask the permission of the British Government.
