Don't be confused by the Tik Tokers who claim to speak on behalf of all Cubans. Cuba is in crisis. But not because of any “regime” imposed on the people from within. Cuba is in crisis because of the blockade imposed by the U.S., which tries to destroy the revolution and the spirit and commitment of the millions of Cuban people that remain in the country to defend it.

Rep Maria Elvira Salazar says we’ve been fooled by the Cuban government. But listening to her own argument, it sounds more like she’s fooling herself. When I pointed out that Cuba maintained universal healthcare and education while under U.S. sanctions, Maria Elvira didn’t deny it. She said Cuba was receiving support from the Soviet Union. Exactly. Cuba was under sanctions, received resources from an ally, and used them to fund social programs. Today, instead of allowing Cuba to trade and develop normally, Washington doubles down on economic punishment. You can criticize the Cuban government all you want. But after more than 60 years, collective punishment has not brought democracy. It has only made life harder for ordinary Cubans. END THE BLOCKADE NOW!

Last night outside the Cuban Embassy in Washington, DC, dozens gathered to dance salsa in solidarity with the Cuban people. People who recently returned from Cuba shared firsthand testimonies about the impact of U.S. sanctions and about the resilience, dignity, and resistance of the Cuban people in the face of escalating pressure. As threats against Cuba intensify, more people around the world are standing up, speaking out, and refusing to stay silent. We will continue raising our voices against these cruel policies and in defense of Cuba’s sovereignty and humanity.
