Seeing videos of students hugging and kissing openly on school premises after completing secondary school is quite disappointing. Celebrating the end of school is understandable, but there should still be a sense of decency, self-respect, and respect for the environment they are in. What is even more worrying is how comfortable some young people have become displaying intimate behavior in public without any regard for those around them. Schools are meant to instill discipline, values, and good conduct, not encourage actions that many would consider inappropriate.

OAU transport system was near perfect, adequate buses and bikes, we rarely experienced queues until the First Lady came and decided she didn’t like the ease of transportation and introduced “change” by donating CNG buses. The school management in turn banned all motorcycles and commercial buses on campus and subjected over 30,000 students to just about 50 buses and a few tricycles. OAU has one of the largest land masses of any Nigerian university, yet students are now stranded daily. This is a Monday morning where students are supposed to rush for class, but they are stuck at the campus gate because of the inefficiency of the CNG buses. Students are struggling to go to class in the morning and in the evenings to even get back to their hostels. Students staying off campus now spend almost double to get to campus, all alternative transport means have been removed The management have cars to bypass all of this, but majority of students do not. Yet they released statements talking about how the buses will “ease transportation” and even implied students appreciate the system. Meanwhile, students are trekking, missing classes, and spending hours in queues. Let it be clear that students do not appreciate this system. It has made our lives harder, not better. What used to be a smooth system has now become a daily struggle. There are many pressing issues in this school, but they chose to dismantle a working transport system and replace it with hardship. We can no longer remain silent. Let the whole world know what OAU students are going through. First, a medical college in Jammu was shut down because Muslim students got admission to MBBS on merit. Now, a school in Baitul district of Madhya Pradesh has been bulldozed simply because it was built by a Muslim, ON HIS OWN LAND, WITH HIS OWN MONEY, to educate Dalit and Tribal children of his village. This is not governance. This is state-sponsored prejudice. ITS NOT A SURPRISE, especially when the NAACP ATTORNEY who argued in front of SCOTUS that basically Democrats need racially gerrymandered districts because “White Democrats DO NOT VOTE FOR Black Candidates regardless of party” … although Im still shocked that this IS FACTUALLY TRUE. This is not a Chinese family going on vacation with their dog. This is a dog likely bought from a wet market for meat. They have tied the poor animal to the back of their car and are driving on the highway as if he is just luggage. He has no idea what is waiting for him. That is what makes this so heartbreaking. This dog is still alive, still trusting, still innocent — and yet he is being treated with no care, no mercy, and no dignity. Dog meat eating is still a cruel reality in parts of China. Many of these dogs are stolen pets or helpless strays. No dog deserves this fate. Dogs are companions. They are not food.

There’s absolutely no place in this game for a cheap shot. Football is a tough, physical sport — but it’s supposed to be played with respect. When a player takes a shot at another guy like that, especially a quarterback that’s defenseless, who’s clearly thrown the ball, it’s gutless. It doesn’t make you tough, it doesn’t help your team — it just shows a lack of discipline and character. We coach our guys to compete the right way, and there’s no excuse for anything less. What’s sadder, no penalty was thrown. MRI scheduled for Monday.

This video from this morning in Jodhpur shows parents and activists protesting outside a Christian school after its staff tore off posters bearing Hanuman Ji’s pictures in front of students yesterday. A protester told me some students had pasted posters of Hanuman Ji in classrooms, but the staff tore them saying no display of any other religion. Most students are from Hindu Jat community Till a decade ago, Hindus would let this sort of a thing pass without noise. Why it has changed now? Lack of ‘tolerance’? Rising ‘Hindu extremism’? Well, it’s almost entirely to do with increasing awareness of how other communities deal with such ‘religious insults’ and how their action is justified. If a picture of Jesus was torn in a Hindu-run school, Christian organisations would cry religious persecution and add the incident to their many dubious lists of attacks. Technically it’s a good thing that the regime is crumbling down, but there’s no need to cheer for literal ISIS-like Islamists.
