Congrats to Ryan Ward for having his contract selected and being placed on the Dodgers' 40 Man Roster. Wardo was awarded as the Most Valuable Player in the PCL this past season after hitting .290, with an OPS of .937. He posted a WRC+ of 132, and his 36 home runs led ALL of the Minor Leagues During this season he also became the ALL-TIME home runs leader (90) and RBIs (318) in the history of the Bricktown Ballpark Era for OKC baseball. On a personal note, I've been going to AAA OKC games since 1975. That dates back to All-Sports stadium, and 6 different affiliation changes, 5 of which have been in my lifetime, and that I remember VERY well. So, to see this with my own eyes was truly historical on a personal level for me as well. #89ERS And, to have it happen in the first year of the new branding was a real "page turner" of OKC baseball, so that's SUPER cool too. Ward also drove in 122 runs, which is the most of ANY player in the PCL since 2010, and racked up the most total bases (315) of any player in the PCL since 2001. Ward also set single-season records for the Bricktown era in hits (164), runs (113), and RBIs (122). As per his defense... His outfield play has gotten better and better as each year has passed, and, while his bat will likely always be the"show stealer", he is a good athlete and has become a very solid outfielder. He can also play 1st base, and dabbled in a touch of 2nd base while at Bryant Baseball Speaking of Bryant, he's the only Bulldog ever to hit over .400 for a single season, and he struck out just 1 time his senior Season at Millbury, so the "hit tool" is NOT a new thing for him. As an aside, he graduated with fewer than 100 kids in his High School, and he is not shy to show pride in his "small town" work ethic. With all the home runs over the fence, his highlight of last year was an at-bat where he kept the ball IN the park. Wardo knocked an INSIDE-the-park WALKOFF home run back at the beginning of May. Congrats, Wardo, I could type ALL DAY about this dude, but that will do it for NOW. #dodgers

Back in March, Fede Gomez had hit rock bottom. He was on a huge losing streak and in a very dark place mentally, opening up in an emotional letter to his fans (posted below) about how he was not only considering retiring from tennis, but had even reached the point of contemplating suicide. Today, he just made the US Open main draw for the first time in his career. He came into Queens with major fitness and health concerns, having not played in over a month after being forced to retire with an injury vs Pavlovic. Qualifying for the main draw was a long shot, to say the least. In Round 1, he shocked Klein as a +550 underdog. In Round 2, he pulled another upset against rising star Cina as a +240 dog. In Round 3, he was down a set and 0-4 to Grenier The feel-good story of the tournament had almost surely come to a painful end. But Fede fought. With his back against the wall, he stormed back to win five of the next six games, miraculously getting the match back on serve Grenier managed to stop the bleeding at 5-5 and again put Gomez right up against it, needing a hold to keep his US Open dream alive He stared down match point at 5-6 30-40, one false move away from going home But Fede fought. And fought. Until he found himself celebrating in front of the frenzied crowd on Court 10, taking it all in after having completed the unlikeliest of comebacks to cap off one of the most magical qualifying runs you’ll ever see Look how much it means. This was so much more than just a match It was undeniable proof of why you never, EVER give up. Tennis is the greatest sport in the world 🥲

* NEW FROM THE CHIRLA FILES * CHIRLA, the taxpayer-funded nonprofit that has been fomenting opposition to immigration enforcement in Los Angeles, owns a film production company that has produced a full-length feature. CHIRLA’s “beleaguered” Executive Director, Angelica Salas, is credited as the Executive Producer of the movie. Seems strange for a nonprofit, right? Pouring over its publicly available financial records, there appear to be a number of irregularities—though I do not have the expertise to form a definitive opinion about whether there was actual malfeasance. Here are the details. As background to CHIRLA’s film-making enterprise: In 2018, the organization produced a 20-minute short called “America, I Too,” which was shown at some film festivals. According to its website, this was “the second film in the series following the first short, ‘Know Your Rights’ created in 2007.” The video by that name that I found online is ten minutes long and has poor production values. CHIRLA incorporated its film company, called CHIRLA Liberty Film, LLC, in January 2019. It is entirely owned by the nonprofit, and its finances are consolidated in CHIRLA’s financial audits. The audit for the year ending June 30, 2019, lists film production costs in the amount of $242,413 and $28,764 from 2018, noting that they relate to the “various costs associated with the production of a film.” The audit, however, does not mention the existence of the film company. Strangely, CHIRLA’s Form 990 (the tax form filed by nonprofits with the IRS) for 2019 also does not reference either the company or the costs of film production. Every year beginning in 2019, CHIRLA’s audits state: “Upon completion of the film, the Organization will review its total revenue estimates from the film, which may result in a change in the rate of amortization and/or a write-down of the film production costs to fair value.” But confusingly, there are never any revenue estimates provided in any audit. The cost of the film production is simply listed as an asset each year. CHIRLA’s 2020 audit is the first to acknowledge the existence of the film company: “CHIRLA has teamed up with CHIRLA Liberty Films LLC to bring to life a dramatized film series about undocumented immigrants called Know Your Rights.” It’s a strange statement, given that the “Know Your Rights” video was produced in 2007. The 2020 audit lists $124,483 as an additional investment in the production of the unnamed film, and the Form 990 for that year lists a cumulative investment in film production of $366,896. Its financials for 2021 are essentially consistent, showing an additional $419,052 spent on the film, totaling $785,948. CHIRLA’s 2022 audit adds $151,658 in production costs, and the 2023 audit adds another $109,437, for a grand total of $1,047,043. Both audits state that the film still had not been completed as of June 30 of their respective years. But contradictorily, CHIRLA’s feature-length film—titled “America’s Family”—is listed on IMDb with a release date in 2022, and there are websites advertising showings in Los Angeles and Boston in June 2022—prior to June 30. Though CHIRLA’s Form 990s for 2020 and 2021 list a dollar value under “Investment in Liberty Film,” the Form 990s for 2022 and 2023 include no record of the investment in film production or acknowledgment of the wholly owned film company. After the initial showing of “America’s Family” in June 2022, the film had a number of additional showings in late 2023. In late 2024, CHIRLA presented the film for free or low cost at several local community centers in Mexico. It is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime. I know little about the film industry, but my suspicion is that the company may have spent more on these screenings than it earned in revenue. This brings me back to the auditor’s recurring statement: “Upon completion of the film, the Organization will review its total revenue estimates from the film, which may result in a change in the rate of amortization and/or a write-down of the film production costs to fair value.” Again, the audit does not include revenue estimates, so it is difficult to guess what this refers to. The $1 million spent on film production was considered an asset on financials. On what planet would this film break even? And what is the movie like? Judging from the trailer, it’s clichéd propaganda. It presents an idyllic life of a Spanish-speaking “American” family, suddenly torn apart by brutal ICE agents. You can judge its artistic merit for yourself. More important will be the judgment about the legality of CHIRLA’s financial filings.

In the very weekend ladies all over the world showed up and delivered strong numbers at Global #BoxOffice, megastar #Shakira deserves a big shout out for her triumph in #Brazil, reuniting 2M attendees in her concert at #TodoMundoNoRio annual mega concert series at #Copacabana Beach in RIO! As one of the last truly Global stars left still relevant & pulling big numbers, the Colombian singer managed to attract the BIGGEST audience ever recorded in the world for any Latino, solo or band, and even achieving the deed of surpassing QUEEN OF POP #Madonna’s historic 1.6M attendees in the first concert of the #TodoMundoNoRio series back in 2024. SHAKIRA’s biggest concert EVER crowned a lifetime of achievements in a 4-decade spanning career, in which she’s been used to achieve the highest marks usually unthinkable for Latin artists, competing on the same league as the usual American and European A-listers and opening the doors to many younger Latinos to try and achieve the same. She worked hard to show it was possible. And the world has never been the same ever since. Before Shakira, most Latin artists would come and go on those “Latin waves” that hit the world of music from time to time, usually forced to sing in English & share their spotlight with an Anglo artist collab to surf the wave while it lasted. But Shakira proved she had what it takes to stay. She wasn’t no wave. She was the new higher standard and she knew it, and fought hard to be seen that way. Shakira proved she could conquer the world also in her own language if she had the platform she worked hard to project herself into to make it happen. And paved the way so others after her could be more than a wave & could remain true to themselves while also competing with their Anglo counterparts. #Shakira’s name is already engraved in the music industry’s history, but she still will keep breaking more records, barriers & stigmas. Her mega-concert of yesterday was just the latest and biggest feather in her incredible pantheon of achievements yet. We are here for many more to come! Bravo!!!

Céline Sciamma on why she made "Portrait of a Lady on Fire" (2019) & on Leonardo Di Caprio being a Lesbian icon: "Sciamma: What I had in mind above all was to make a film about love, with a totally invented story. And when I thought about it, I found that there were few films totally devoted to love, even though they are often the greatest in the history of cinema. It's rare, even though it's the beating heart of our cinephiles. Interviewer: What movies were you thinking of? Sciamma: 'Titanic' (1997), for example. It's a real influence, which I recently revisited. Both films are about the memories of a love affair, almost behind closed doors. I spent a long time looking for a framework and then one day I looked at the script and I thought: "F**k, it's Titanic! It's simply Titanic." There's the prologue, of course, before the flashback, but also the drawing scene, which is very explicit in my film. With this dialogue: "Don't laugh, be serious…" Interviewer Is it an important film for you? Sciamma: Collectively, it's important. There are different film regimes that count in our cinephilia: those we love and those that are part of a collective phenomenon. It's rare to experience those moments, especially when it's about 'Titanic' and not 'Qu’est-ce qu’on a fait au bon Dieu?' (2014). Titanic was a cultural moment, and in my life as a cinephile, it's probably the most important one, even more so because of the shared love. And with a real queer dynamic! Leo DiCaprio is a lesbian icon. A very new masculinity at the time, in cinema - with time it deepens enormously, it's exciting to watch. At the time, in that youth and in that body, there was really something hyper queer. And then the love scene is a total inversion of the conventions: she's on top of him, she reassures him, he’s the one who’s breathless... All that in the back seat of a car, like in any good teen movie. There were great subversive effects in 'Titanic', and that's something James Cameron always did anyway. What it also has in common with my film is the idea that the greatest loves are emancipatory and that the loss of them is the price of our future fulfillment. At the end of 'Titanic', there are three photos of a girl in pants riding a horse! It’s one of the few films that asserts that love can bring positive things, even when it's over. In my opinion, this is one of the hidden reasons for the incredible success of the film." ("CÉLINE SCIAMMA : DiCaprio est une icône lesbienne.", Axel Cadieux, Sofilm, 2020) P.S: On this day, 7 years ago, "Portrait of a Lady on Fire" (2019) premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, France.

Black Christmas (1974) 🎄 This film is considered one of the most influential horror films ever made, often cited as the "mother" of the modern slasher genre. Despite a modest initial financial performance, it has achieved massive cultural impact and critical re-evaluation over the last 50 years. Produced on a budget of roughly $686,000, it was a major hit in its native Canada, becoming the third-highest-grossing Canadian film of its time. It initially struggled in the U.S. due to competition from The Godfather Part II, but eventually grossed over $4 million worldwide, cementing its status as a financial success. Upon release, critics largely dismissed it as "senseless mayhem" or "trash". However, modern reviews are overwhelmingly positive, with a 71% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and rankings on numerous "Best Horror Movie" lists by outlets like IndieWire and Esquire. Cultural Impact and Innovation The film pioneered several tropes that defined the 1980s slasher boom: The "Final Girl": Jess Bradford (Olivia Hussey) is recognized as one of the first "final girls" in horror. Unlike later iterations, she was sexually active and had full agency, challenging the "virginal survivor" trope. It introduced the Killer's POV tracking shots, the concept of a killer stalking a group of young women, and the "calls are coming from inside the house" plot device later famously used in “When a Stranger Calls”. Influence on “Halloween”: Director Bob Clark’s discussions with John Carpenter about a hypothetical Black Christmas sequel (involving a killer escaping a psychiatric ward on Halloween) directly inspired Carpenter's 1978 classic. Released just one year after Roe v. Wade, the film is praised for its progressive treatment of reproductive rights, as Jess remains steadfast in her decision to have an abortion despite pressure from her boyfriend. Fun Fact Director Bob Clark later directed the 1983 holiday classic “A Christmas Story”. While the two films are tonally opposites, they both remain essential viewing for the Christmas season.

STAR WARS hit screens on this day in 1977. It was one of the first films I saw in the theater. Because it was in theaters for over a year (like RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK would be four years later), I can’t be sure if I saw it in 1977 or 1978, but I do know that I was very young. I remember going with my mom, that it was a matinee, and that we sat in the middle. The seats stand out to me because I remember I had to use the restroom in the middle of the climactic battle scene :) I’d see it multiple times in the theater over its run and would see THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and RETURN OF THE JEDI on their opening weekends. And yes, I remember the marketing for the third film when it was called REVENGE OF THE JEDI. If you did not live through it, it is hard to describe the STAR WARS mania that gripped the country in 1977 and lasted through RETURN OF THE JEDI in 1983. From lines at the theaters to toys to costumes to books to the infamous 1978 STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL, it was an amazing time to be a kid and witness the magic of the movies firsthand through a phenomenon you knew was something extremely special. I can’t be 100% sure that STAR WARS was my first movie in the theater, as during that timeframe I also saw WATERSHIP DOWN (traumatic) and THE RESCUERS (dark) as a double feature with my dad (we had to travel to a city and I found a 9mm bullet in the street – a bullet I still have today), CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND with my grandmother (where I tripped running to the theater with a bowl of popcorn that was almost bigger than I was and spilling it all over the hallway - and I remember how nice the guy was behind the counter who gave us another one for free), and a double feature of ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN and THE BLACK HOLE, but in looking at the dates of those two films I think it was after STAR WARS and that the theater paired an older film (ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN – 1975) with a new film (THE BLACK HOLE – 1979). I just watched the original three films with my youngest son, and it brings me right back…probably the closest I can get to a time machine.

🚨 WARNING: THE NEXT 24 HOURS WILL LIQUIDATE TRILLIONS FROM THE MARKET!! Bank of Japan is about to hike interest rates to 1.00% TODAY. Japan hasn’t been at 1.00% since the 1990s. And if you think Japan doesn’t impact global markets... YOU ARE COMPLETELY WRONG. Every time the BOJ raised rates, Bitcoin and risk assets dumped 20%+ in days. But it’s not just about risk assets. Let me break this down for you: The last time Japan was in this range, the world was already in crisis. In 1994, bonds got destroyed in the “Great Bond Massacre.” Around $1.5 trillion in bond market value was wiped out. Then in early 1995, the pressure kept building. The yen collapsed hard. On April 19, 1995, USD/JPY hit 79.75 - a record low for the dollar. Now here’s the part most people forget. Japan pushed rates higher, then had to cut again that same year. The BOJ brought the discount rate back down to 0.50% in September 1995. That one detail explains everything. Because when Japan tightens into a fragile system, it never stays “local.” Japan is the cheap money hub of the world. And Japan is one of the largest holders of U.S. debt. Japan holds over $1.25 trillion in U.S. Treasuries. If Japan starts selling, the entire world feels it immediately. And now there’s another problem. The U.S.-Iran peace deal is off. United States and Iran have walked away. That removes stability from the Middle East immediately. Oil risk goes up. Energy prices go up. Inflation goes up. And when inflation goes up while Japan is tightening... Markets break. This is a warning. Not because rates are going up. But because the last time we were here, the system was already under stress - and it forced reactions fast. Markets are not pricing this. But they will. Pay attention. The next move will shock everyone. I’ve spent decades studying markets, and I’ve called most major tops and bottoms. And I’ll call it again in 2026. Follow and turn notifications on before it’s too late. Don’t become exit liquidity.

🚨BRICS SUMMIT 2023🚨 {1/3} ✅ IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS EVERYTHING CHANGES FOR THE UNITED STATES ✅ THE DE-DOLLARIZATION MOMENT MIGHT FINALLY BE HERE ✅ A GOLD-BACKED CURRENCY THAT STANDS AS THE BACKBONE OF A NEW BRICS CURRENCY IS BEING ROLLED OUT IN EARNEST ‼️In 24 hours, Putin and China will change everything. Yes, tomorrow, a BRICS lightning bolt will shock the Western hegemony that's been ruling the world for decades. Western media is totally ignoring the story, by the way, because they don't want to admit what's about to happen. Goldman Sachs, though, understands it, and they believe that by the year 2050, the BRICS nations will dominate the global economy. So on Tuesday, yes, tomorrow, the BRICS summit officially kicks off in South Africa. This is the first face-to-face BRICS summit since the start of COVID, and we are about to witness a rebalancing of the world order. ‼️The agenda items at this summit are massive: 💥The currency, yes, a new currency, trade, military cooperation, AI, microchips, oil, all of it, infrastructure, rail lines, shipping. This is a big, big deal. And the United States, I guess, didn't get an invitation. The British didn't get an invitation. Germany isn't welcome. Is the game over for the Western hegemony? Well, the writing is on the wall. Now, for those of you that don't know, BRICS stands for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. And it started out small, over a decade ago, and now it's become the greatest threat to Western power that we've ever seen. And I'm not talking about military power here, which we'll get to in a second. I'm actually talking about economic power, oil power, computer power, trade power, the greatest weapons of all, not those bombs. 💥Now the top of the agenda is the United States dollar, squarely in the crosshairs. Here's how Foreign Policy magazine headlines this moment, a BRICS currency could shake the dollar's dominance. The de-dollarization moment might finally be here. Really? Is it true? After all, talk of getting rid of the U.S. dollar as a reserve currency goes back to the 1960s. Here's the New York Times, in 1968, talking about France trying to separate itself from the U.S. dollar. Yes, French President Charles de Gaulle versus Lyndon Johnson. That's how old this is. That's how far back this goes. This isn't new at all. But now we are at a tipping point. Brazil's president, Lula da Silva, says that every night he asks himself why all of these countries have to base their trade on the U.S. dollar. Can you imagine every night before going to bed, that's the thought that you have? And what he does? Well, now they don't. A gold-backed currency that stands as the backbone of a new BRICS currency is being rolled out in earnest. Brazil, Russia, China, India, South Africa, trading oil, computer chips, minerals and settling those transactions in a reserve currency that has nothing to do with the U.S. dollar. All of the previous meetings of these BRICS nations have been leading up to this moment in South Africa. BRICS countries are home to more than 3.2 billion people, around 40% of the global population. None of the bloc's members is in the G7, the group of seven advanced economies. To increase its influence, BRICS is considering bringing new members into the fold. Just look at the trade between the BRICS nations. There's a massive financial surplus. The BRICS nations have a trade surplus. Brazil just hit a record trade surplus. So why would they want to settle these transactions with U.S. dollars? Doesn't make any sense. Meanwhile, Europe's trade deficit has hit a new record, nearly $500 billion trade deficit. Which side would you rather be on? Of course, this isn't happening overnight and there are big impediments to a BRICS currency. The biggest issue right now is that if Russia wants to import things from other countries that are not named China, they'll likely have to settle it in U.S. dollars if they want to import those items

In Remembrance of Carole Lombard Born | October 6, 1908 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Died | January 16, 1942 aged 33 at Potosi Mountain, Nevada, USA Video | Carole Lombard Tribute Carole Lombard was born Jane Alice Peters in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on October 6, 1908. Her parents divorced in 1916 and her mother took the family on a trip out West. While there they decided to settle down in the Los Angeles area. After being spotted playing baseball in the street with the neighborhood boys by a film director, Carole was signed to a one-picture contract in 1921 when she was 12. The film in question was A Perfect Crime (1921). Although she tried for other acting jobs, she would not be seen onscreen again for four years. She returned to a normal life, going to school and participating in athletics, excelling in track and field. By age 15 she had had enough of school, though, and quit. She joined a theatre troupe and played in several stage shows, which were for the most part nothing to write home about. In 1925 she passed a screen test and was signed to a contract with Fox Films. Her first role as a Fox player was Hearts and Spurs (1925), in which she had the lead. Right after that film she appeared in a western called Durand of the Bad Lands (1925). She rounded out 1925 in the comedy Marriage in Transit (1925) (she also appeared in a number of two-reel shorts). In 1926 Carole was seriously injured in an automobile accident that resulted in the left side of her face being scarred. Once she had recovered, Fox canceled her contract. She did find work in a number of shorts during 1928 (13 of them, many for slapstick comedy director Mack Sennett), but did go back for a one-time shot with Fox called Me, Gangster (1928). By now the film industry was moving from the silent era to “talkies”. While some stars' careers ended because of heavy accents, poor diction or a voice unsuitable to sound, Carole's light, breezy, sexy voice enabled her to transition smoothly during this period. Her first sound film was High Voltage (1929) at Pathe (her new studio) in 1929. In 1931 she was teamed with William Powell in Man of the World (1931). She and Powell hit it off and soon married, but the marriage didn't work out and they divorced in 1933. No Man of Her Own (1932) put Carole opposite Clark Gable for the first and only time (they married seven years later in 1939). By now she was with Paramount Pictures and was one of its top stars. However, it was Twentieth Century (1934) that showed her true comedic talents and proved to the world what a fine actress she really was. In 1936 Carole received her only Oscar nomination for Best Actress for My Man Godfrey (1936). She was superb as ditzy heiress Irene Bullock. Unfortunately, the coveted award went to Luise Rainer in The Great Ziegfeld (1936), which also won for Best Picture. Carole was now putting out about one film a year of her own choosing, because she wanted whatever role she picked to be a good one. She was adept at picking just the right part, which wasn't surprising as she was smart enough to see through the good-ol'-boy syndrome of the studio moguls. She commanded and received what was one of the top salaries in the business ― at one time it was reported she was making $35,000 a week. She made but one film in 1941, Mr. & Mrs. Smith (1941). Her last film was in 1942, when she played Maria Tura opposite Jack Benny in To Be or Not to Be (1942). Tragically, she didn't live to see its release. The film was completed in 1941 just at the time the US entered World War II, and was subsequently held back for release until 1942. Meanwhile, Carole went home to Indiana for a war bond rally. On January 16, 1942, Carole, her mother, and 20 other people were flying back to California when the plane went down outside of Las Vegas, Nevada. All aboard perished. The highly acclaimed actress was dead at the age of 33 and few have been able to match her talents since. ― IMDb mini biography by: Denny Jackson Video footage courtesy of Saxon Brack Music | Dances with Wolves [1990] ― “The John Dunbar Theme”

🧵Taiwan🇹🇼: From Silicon Shield to Dollar Colony 1/ Bloomberg just reported: “Taiwan’s Markets Shaken as Currency Surges Most Since 1980s.” Sound familiar? This isn’t just a market story. It’s a geopolitical trap—one that echoes the Plaza Accord that wrecked Japan.👇 2/ Let’s break this down. The NT dollar just surged at the fastest rate since the 1980s. Why does this matter? Because the last time this happened, it was engineered by the U.S. Back then, Japan was forced to revalue the yen—and it paid the price for decades. 3/ 📉 Currency surges = exports become uncompetitive 📈 Hot money floods in = asset bubbles inflate 💣 Manufacturing base weakens 🎭 All while politicians pretend it’s “market confidence” It’s not confidence. It’s strategic financial manipulation. 4/ Now Taiwan faces the same setup. While Lai’s administration is eager to please Trump on tariffs, Taiwan is already giving in on another front: its currency. This is a familiar playbook: America offers “support” in exchange for economic control. 5/ Meanwhile, Taiwan’s most valuable asset—TSMC—is being dismantled piece by piece. 🇺🇸 Relocating chip production to Arizona 💸 Burning billions on inefficient U.S. fabs 🔒 Facing export controls from its “partner” How’s that for a “win”? 6/ Let’s be clear: This is not partnership. This is colonization—through capital flows, technology transfer, and political pressure. Taiwan wanted protection. What it got was dependency. 7/ Taiwan’s leadership thinks it’s buying protection from China. In reality, it’s selling out its economy to Washington—just like Japan did in the 1980s. No trade leverage. No monetary independence. No industrial policy of its own. Just a new vassal state under the dollar system. 8/ History doesn’t repeat—but it rhymes. Japan was the first victim of Plaza Accord-style containment. Now Taiwan is next. First they take your chips. Then they take your currency. Finally, they own your economy. 9/ Washington doesn’t need to sign another Plaza Accord. It just needs: ✔️ A compliant government ✔️ Capital control via Wall Street ✔️ Narrative dominance in global media Taiwan checked all three. 10/ Ask yourself: Why is Taiwan’s currency surging while its manufacturing is under pressure? Why is TSMC being gutted while Lai negotiates tariffs with Trump? Because this is not protection—it’s strategic capture. 📉 The Silicon Shield is becoming a Dollar Cage. —End—

In case you didn't know mode: The only player in Europe to have an "era of Tekken". The Ryan Hart Era of Tekken was between 1996 - 2012. During this lengthy 16 year period, there was no man in all of Europe who was more feared across all Tekken games than Ryan Hart. Ryan would often rack up 100+ wins or more during arcade sessions and is the only person in Tekken history to win National and European championships on every Tekken 3, 4, 5, 6 and Tekken Tag. Ryan Hart's reign of terror also extended to North America where in 2001, despite having multiple characters in his arsenal, Ryan saw the competition and decided to display the Korean style of Mishima play, which had been taught to him by Bong Bong from South Korea, and Ryan defeated every single North American player he played against, nobody from NA was able to topple him. Ryan also beat US Champion; JOP in a close deathmatch that ended 26-21 in Ryan's favour. Ryan's two single defeats at this time were at the Electric Cancel 3 tournament, where Jang SuWon from South Korea defeated Ryan 3-2 and JOP defeated Ryan 3-1 in tournament, however there was controversy around the JOP win as Ryan's RP button visibly stopped working mid tournament, combos were dropped mid flow, 112's on hit not completed, etc. However despite his 3rd place finish, Ryan had successfully began his reign of terror extension in North America. When Ryan revisited the US for Virtua Fighter on the East Coast twice, again he was dominant against all North American competition. Nobody could put a lid on Ryan's ferocity, reaction time, execution, situational awareness and clutch factor. Ryan also had the largest character usage. Ryan Hart placed Top 3 then Top 4 two years in a row at EVOLUTIONCHAMPIONSHIPSERIES, while simultaneously consistently securing Grand Finals on Tekken at the same time. (Securing Top 2 and Top 3 on two EVO main stage titles at the same time is noteworthy. The next year at EVO Ryan secured top 4 on VF and actually won Tekken at the same time while getting 5th on a third main stage EVO title.) In 2003 Ryan defeated Kim Bong Min from Korea in a 4 hour deathmatch hosted at Castel's House in front of a live audience, becoming the first person in the world to defeat a Korean Tekken champion in a deathmatch. After news of this travelled around North America, every single NA player that had previously challenged Ryan Hart and set up money matches, all rescinded their challenge, during Ryan Hart's time in NA in 2003, not a single NA player would challenge Ryan Hart. People feared Ryan and in pre EVO polls every year, Ryan Hart was always predicted an EVO Grand Final finish even before the tournament bracket had been drawn up. During the next three years in a row at Evolution Championship Series, Ryan Hart went undefeated vs NA, Japan and EU in Tekken Tag. Not a single person from North America, Japan or Europe ever beat Ryan Hart on Tekken Tag at any EVO ever. After these years EVO replaced Tekken Tag in favour of the newer Tekken 5 game, which made sense. In the Tekken Tag domain Ryan Hart went down as one of the all time kings that ever touched the game, that was literally never beaten by anybody from Japan, America or Europe on the EVO stage. Ryan Hart got to Grand Finals back to back 3 years in a row and either won it or lost to a top Korean player. He again won it in 2008, this time on Tekken 5 DR. Ryan came out of Tekken retirement for a one-off exhibition match on Tekken 7 vs RIP in 2019, which Ryan won 10-3. There have been challengers to Ryan's throne that came and went, but no player in the world has stood the test of time on multiple fighting games since the 90's like Ryan has. #EVO #Evo2025 #TEKKEN #VirtuaFighter

Peter Mandelson is one of the dodgiest people in politics. We've known this for decades - he first resigned in disgrace when I was 7 years old. Yet Starmer appointed him. He didn't need a full vetting process to know that Mandelson was no good. He could have just Googled him. In 1996, he took an interest-free £373,000 loan from Geoffrey Robinson, former Labour MP and owner of the New Statesman. The loan was offered, no strings attached, and Mandelson went on to buy a new house in Notting Hill. Robinson had previously been close with Robert Maxwell, the disgraced media baron charged with embezzling millions from his own companies' pension funds. Mandelson, as Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, was responsible for the Department's investigation into Maxwell. Despite the huge loan that he'd been offered, Mandelson never declared that he had a conflict of interest in conducting that investigation. Robinson had dealings with many of Maxwell's companies - and again, Mandelson saw no need to declare a conflict of interest. In 1998, the story broke, and Mandelson was forced to resign in disgrace. He'd taken a huge loan from a friend, who could have been implicated in a corruption investigation that he was carrying out. In 1999, he was back, this time as Northern Ireland Secretary. By 2001, he was resigning again, after allegations that he used his position to influence a passport application for the sponsor of a major New Labour project. That man was Srichand Hinduja, who was under investigation by the Indian Government for his role in the Bofors scandal. He was alleged to have taken kickbacks as part of an arms deal. Yet Mandelson personally intervened to try and secure him a British passport. In 2004, Mandelson billed the taxpayer £3,000 to refurbish his constituency home in Hartlepool, after announcing his decision to stand down as an MP. In 2005, it was reported that, while serving as an EU Commissioner, he spent New Year’s Eve on the yacht of Paul Allen, the co-founder of Microsoft, while Microsoft was undergoing a major EU investigation. In 2006, he received a free cruise from an Italian fashion mogul, just before he helped to impose tariffs on Chinese shoes. In 2008, he spent time on a yacht with Oleg Deripaska, a Russian oligarch. In that same year, he cut aluminium tariffs on Russia, in a move that massively benefitted Deripaska's businesses. It turns out that when he'd visited Russia in 2005, the head of security at Deripaska's metals company had organised for Mandelson to get a swift entry visa. Following Jeffrey Epstein's conviction for soliciting prostitution from a minor, Mandelson maintained close contact with Epstein. This was a matter of public record. That's to say nothing of the most recent allegations - including the claim that he fed market-sensitive information to Jeffrey Epstein just before the 2008 Financial Crash, after receiving money from Epstein. The Prime Minister and his team will try to hide behind the appointments process. There is plenty wrong with that process, including with who receives information, and when. But there was no need to conduct a formal vetting process into Mandelson. He’s been nationally famous as a dodgy politician for more than 25 years. Starmer knew the political risk in appointing him. He chose to do it anyway. That’s not a process issue, and it’s pathetic to pretend otherwise. It’s a judgment issue. Making important judgement calls is the Prime Minister’s job. The trouble is, he’s terrible at it.

Elite opinion often runs on a simple rule: publicly sneer at something, privately consume it. Years ago, I visited the Yale Club of New York City for the first time. It’s an exclusive club—membership is limited to Yale alumni. I wandered into the common area and noticed a table where several newspapers were laid out for members. Naturally, I was curious about what the “lizard people” were reading. The lineup was predictable at first. There was The New York Times—the paper of record for the upper-middle class. Next to it sat The Wall Street Journal, another unsurprising choice for a room full of professionals. But then I saw something unexpected: New York Post. And not tucked away somewhere—placed just as prominently as the others. The NY Post, of course, is widely regarded in polite society as a tabloid: sensational headlines, crime stories, celebrity gossip. Often treated as the kind of paper respectable people claim not to read. A couple of years later I had a similar experience at the Oxford and Cambridge Club in London. Again, I headed straight for the common room to see what the local lizard people were reading. There was The Times, as expected. Also The Guardian and The Daily Telegraph. All standard fare for Britain’s professional and political classes. But sitting alongside them—displayed just as prominently—was the Daily Mail. That caught my attention. The Daily Mail has roughly the same reputation in Britain that the New York Post has in the US. Critics dismiss it as sensationalist, aimed at less educated readers who prefer striking images and dramatic headlines to sober analysis. Yet there it was, laid out in the reading room of one of London’s most elite clubs. The implication is hard to miss. Publicly, many people in elite circles look down on tabloids. Privately, they read them. If they didn’t, those papers wouldn’t be sitting on the tables in the private spaces where elites gather.
