During The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), Martin Scorsese became frustrated because the punches looked “stupid” and “fake.” He told Jon Bernthal “Why don’t you try hitting him (Jonah Hill) for real?” Before the take, Bernthal warned the crew, “This is going to be the real punch, everybody.” Jonah looked to Leonardo DiCaprio for help, but DiCaprio simply turned away saying, "I think you should do it for real". Bernthal hit Hill so hard his prosthetic teeth flew out of his mouth.

In the sushi scene, the script originally dictated that the speaker (DiCaprio's character) would eat the last piece of yellowtail. However, on the first take, Hill improvised and offered the piece to Leo. He kept telling DiCaprio, “No, buddy, you have it.” Because of continuity, “he had to eat like 80 pieces of raw yellowtail that night,” Hill recalled. “He was throwing up into a trash bin,” while he and Martin Scorsese laughed.
