This bill ignores vital safeguards on an individual case by case basis. How can there be an option of death without creating pressure to choose it? And how can there be such an option of death while still affirming each person’s value and humanity? Instead of assisted dying, the focus should be towards assisted living.

If the Leadbeater assisted suicide Bill passes, doctors will be allowed to bring up assisted suicide with patients - even if the patients never mention it themselves. Dr Rachel Clarke (Dr Rachel Clarke) says if a doctor brings up assisted suicide with a vulnerable patient who's just been given a terminal diagnosis, it is a form of pressure, and potentially, the doctor could be unintentionally coercing the patient.

Today in the Lords we discussed a proposal to set up a dedicated Assisted Dying Help Service as part of the NHS, and a 'Personal Navigator' to push a person through a fast-track process to assisted death. Yuk. I said how I felt, and also warned against creating two-tier provision. Can every patient have a care navigator? Can patients fast track access to other HEALTH services, or is it just death services?

Last week we discussed the Assisted Dying Bill - terminally ill patients should be offered specialised palliative care that can so often alleviate suffering. Too many pushing for assisted dying use the argument of intolerable pain to scaremonger. It is also chilling and galling that the NHS-run state assisted dying scheme will cost a fortune while government policies are destroying many hospices.

The government's alleged neutrality on Assisted Dying means that ministers can evade explaining how it will be delivered. If the Bill passes, won't it require a complete rewrite of NHS constitution and an overturn of medical ethics? Surely the principles of do no harm and improving health - or indeed extending and/or enhancing life - no longer apply? Doesn't all this change if the NHS runs an assisted dying service, with doctors expected to administer lethal substances to bring about death? Ministers need to be clear and not evasive about the big-picture consequences.

For some reason, my speech today got laughs (I think it might've been the idea of me as a quivering wreck). Doctors shouldn't be able to raise the suggestion of Assisted Dying to patients because a) doctor/patient relationship has huge power imbalance so a GP raising it may be heard as a suggestion/recommendation and b) if you want the state to assist in taking your own life, it has to be patient-initiated to ensure autonomous choice and free will. Guess what: sponsor of the Bill not moved!

As a member of the bill committee I shared serious concerns about this bill being unsafe & deeply flawed. The House of Lords will fix it said many, convincing MP’s to let it pass. Well The ‘House of Lords’ didn’t fix it! The Assisted Dying Bill is not safe and remains deeply flawed!

Today in a side room in parliament the government pushed ahead with policy to increase the number of, and role of, Physician Associates PAs are not doctors, nor GPs, and yet they are being phased in as doctor substitutes and GP substitutes - read that again This will create a two tier system of health service, those seen by qualified doctors and GPs, and those seen by PAs We desperately need more doctors and GPs, but instead of training and hiring them (Brexit has made it difficult to bring more in), this Conservative government is watering down the quality of service being offered by the NHS In 2010 the Conservatives inherited the NHS as one of the world's best health services. Since then they have underfunded the NHS, outsourced so we pay more for the same service, and now they're watering down the quality of staff. Shame on anyone who still votes for the Conservative party, because they are destroying our NHS
