In this video I demonstrate #UnrealEngine5.4's brand new workflow to automatically retarget animations between common skeleton types. This tool makes it super easy to bring your animation into Unreal from outside sources. With just a few clicks, you can transfer animation two/from most industry standard skeleton types (Mannequins, Mixamo,... show more

GDC spoilers? 🧐

It's why you follow me right? 😂

I recorded a video of myself bumbling my way through this today. It is on YouTube. I will stick a link to your video in the description.

Ha, been working on a plugin like that -well, way worse- the last few month... I am happy to toss it away now ;-) Thanks, that system looks great!

Hope it was at least a good learning experience!

Awesome, thanks for the walkthrough ! Is it any different than IK Retargeter already in UE 5.3 ? Is there like more features or is it the auto generated retargeting asset ?

This system auto-generates a basic IK Retargeter in the background and uses that to do the animation transfer. If you want, you can export it as an asset and use the retarget editor to further customize the motion. But you don't have to even know what an IK Retargeter is to simply copy animation.

Very great!! Thanks for sharing about it!!

Congrats Kiaran and the team for your work. So cool to see the evolution and that you care about feedbacks from the community! Can’t wait to test it out 🙌

@cinedatabase Awesome stuff. Just curious, is this something that will supported at runtime?

@cinedatabase Yes, you can plug that IK Retargeter asset into a "Retarget Pose from Mesh" anim node. You have to supply a separate (usually hidden) skeletal mesh component as the source. It will copy the anim graph output of the source mesh and retarget it to the target mesh.
