American Surgeon shows the actual letter from UnitedHealthcare DENYING a patient in emergency condition from receiving care “This is a woman who was in the emergency room with pulmonary embolisms” “I think we all knew this would happen. I had another patient come in and share with me that UnitedHealthcare denied her inpatient's day. So this is a patient who had shortness of breath and some chest pain, and she just knew that something wasn't right in her body. She had a family history of blood clots and she'd had a deep flap surgery a couple of weeks ago. She went to the hospital and they saw her and they found that she had a life threatening condition known as pulmonary embolisms. So she was admitted to the hospital and taken care of really well by the doctors there. And they ordered all the right things. After a couple of days, she was discharged. She got a letter from UnitedHealthcare explaining that they didn't agree with the level of her care and that they would not cover it. So I'm gonna share some of the language of that letter with you, and I want you to know that my patient that we talked about previously who had her surgery denied had almost exactly the same letter shared. So there's some troubling things in this letter. I think this term is really interesting. United is saying they reviewed the request for inpatient admission. So let's all just pause and consider that. This is a woman who was in the emergency room with pulmonary embolisms, and the doctor wasn't really requesting anything. They were saying this patient needs to be in the hospital. But an insurance company sees this as a request, and that's part of this prior auth environment that we're living in. So I think it's important as patients and as physicians to just acknowledge that this is our reality now. Someone can think that there's a good medical decision for you and can write orders and wanna do the right thing for you, but your insurance company is seeing that as a request and deciding whether or not they wanna do it. One of the criteria that this insurance company used to decide whether or not to accept or deny this request was whether it's medically necessary. And it's so interesting that we're letting insurance companies and the doctors who work for insurance companies determine what's medically necessary and not just the doctor in front of the patient in the emergency room. So this is a really bold statement from UnitedHealthcare for my patient. They say you did not have to be admitted as an inpatient to the hospital for this care. I think we all need to just reflect on that. An insurance company is telling a patient and her doctor that they disagree with the plan of care to keep that patient safe. I know that this is boiling down to whether it's an inpatient admission or an observation admission, and that's really about money. But what I wanna point out to you is they're making medical decisions. This insurance company is actually weighing in and disagreeing with a doctor who made a medical decision to admit this patient for her safety. So this specific sentence, when a doctor or facility treats a patient above the recommended level of care, we cannot cover it. What the heck? That's what we do. We go above and beyond as physicians. It's clear that insurance companies don't, and they're actually saying it here.”

My last case of 2025 and my first case of 2026 tell you everything you need to know about our healthcare system. Last week, I was scheduled to do a DIEP flap for a patient who had been waiting a long time. We had asked her insurance company if we could do the surgery in network at @Redbudsurgerycenter, where we have everything needed to safely and efficiently take care of her. They hadn’t approved that, so the surgery had to be scheduled at an older hospital in town. When we arrived, the hospital was having HVAC issues. The humidity levels were not safe for surgery. We waited for hours, and ultimately the case had to be canceled. It wasn’t just her surgery. Multiple surgeries were canceled that day because operating under those conditions would have been a fire risk. We weren’t able to reschedule her surgery before the end of the year, which means her deductible resets. I could have safely done her surgery at Redbud that day but insurance rules wouldn’t allow it. This is what closed networks and rigid systems look like in real life. Now here’s the contrast. The first case I’m doing in 2026 is also a woman who needs breast reconstruction with DIEP flaps. This time, instead of traditional insurance, her employer uses a third party administrator. They came to me directly and asked what I would charge if they paid fairly and transparently. On Monday, we’re doing her bilateral DIEP flap at @Redbudsurgerycenter. I can control the environment, the costs, and the care. It’s better for the patient and significantly less expensive for the employer. This is called Direct Specialty Care. It’s not direct primary care. It’s specialty care delivered without unnecessary barriers. It’s happening. We’re starting the year this way. And I’m going to keep pushing the boundaries and keeping you informed.

Today, we took our daughter, Rafif, to the doctor to check on her health. After examining her, the doctor found that she has a fungal infection in her stomach, which is causing the persistent diarrhea she has been suffering from. She is also struggling with flu symptoms and a severe cold, which have left her even weaker and more exhausted. The doctor prescribed Flagyl and told us that if the diarrhea continues over the next three days, we will need to return for another examination. I feel helpless because I cannot protect my daughter, Rafif, from the harsh conditions we are living in. The water available to us is unsafe to drink, much of the food that reaches us is not fit to eat, and even the air we breathe is filled with the smell of rockets and gunpowder. All I want is to see my daughter healthy and safe, growing up like any other child in this world. Instead, every day feels like a new battle to protect her from illness and fear in an environment that threatens the most basic necessities of life: clean water, safe food, proper medicine, and clean air. What breaks my heart the most is not only Rafif’s illness, but seeing such a young child struggle with diarrhea, the flu, a cold, and constant exhaustion when her days should be filled with laughter, play, and happiness. This woman reserved a ride with Lyft. When the driver showed up, he pointed to her service dog and said no, and took off. She says this happens all the time and his vest clearly says “service dog”. She suffers from seizures and has to have the dog with her at all times. Many pointed out that there is an option to select that you have an animal and someone from Lyft who picks up animals will take the reservation. But, it does cost more. But others pointed out that her dog is not a pet, it’s a service animal and by law, they cannot refuse the ride. Some stated that they would refuse the ride too because she didn’t let them know she had a dog and some drivers may have a fear of dogs or be allergic to them. So what’s the solution? You and her husband are very stupid. This is how you people want to defend yourselves after killing her. After the husband was telling everyone she was healed. After you people locked her up in a room and refused her to even go and see her father. She could not talk to anyone. Even created a nick name for her husband (the nickname was Azenabor) so his family won’t know she’s referring to him when she talks to people to help her. Your stupid church pastor told her God has healed her and that she should return 2 million naira back to the church from her donation money, he said the 2 million is the amount the church donated for her dialysis. She asked the Pastor to send evidence of the 2 million that he claims belongs to the church and he could not. Next thing the church said the money people sent to her is cursed. That the same thing killed her mother. When she’s with the pastor and her husband she has to pretend to her friends that the Agbo and prayers were working, but she confided in a few people. Even cried that she wants to go meet her father and the husband shouted her down. Your stupid friend and the Pastor told her she doesn’t need dialysis and even when her boss from work offered to give her 500,000 every month for 3 month’s dialysis, she couldn’t take the money because the boss requested for hospital evidence breakdown after every dialysis for the 3 months he’d pay and she didn’t want her boss to know she stopped dialysis because of her husband and the stupid church. People were willing to help. CBC claims that Donald Trump would treat Chrystia Freeland badly… because she’s a woman, and that’s how he treats women. Stop this propaganda already. From a broadcaster who went independent and now gets more views than the state funded CBC does (imagine what I could do with a billion dollars…) THIS propaganda and false rhetoric is exactly why you need the government money to stay afloat. As with any business… adjust your messaging in order to compete and thrive. Stop inviting guests like this on your show who likely don’t even believe what they say as it comes out of their mouth… because if you’ve ever heard women in trumps camp talk about him and how he treats them, you would never have this kind of a take away. And kids that age do not carry nothing for "an hour" 2. the sister is "injured" . First head is covered (why??) and carried like a potato bag, then her head shows perfectly no injuries on the head. Why cover her? why this drama? 3. Was "hit by car"? #FINAL #UPDATE 26/04/2026 Today, I am elated and grateful to share that the woman I posted about earlier this month, who was battling a massive breast tumor, has been officially discharged from the hospital. Medical reports confirmed the tumor as a phyllodes tumor of the right breast, weighing about 13kg and measuring approximately 75cm by 80cm, making her recovery even more remarkable. From the day I got her admitted on April 2nd, to her successful surgery on April 14th, and now to this moment, her journey has been nothing short of a miracle. All medical bills have been fully settled, and she is now leaving the hospital with a renewed chance at life and hope for her children. In this heartfelt video, she expressed her gratitude to everyone who stood by her, especially the Nigeria Police Force and myself (CSP Nkeiruka), who stepped in when help seemed far away. From the day I got her admitted on April 2nd, to her successful surgery on April 14th, and now to this moment, her journey has been nothing short of a miracle. All medical bills have been fully settled, and she is now leaving the hospital with a renewed chance at life and hope for her children. In this heartfelt video, she expressed her gratitude to everyone who stood by her, especially the Nigeria Police Force and myself (CSP Nkeiruka), who stepped in when help seemed far away. Her words were filled with prayers, appreciation, and a renewed belief that compassion still exists. This journey has shown me that beyond every uniform is a human being, and beyond every difficult situation, there is always room for kindness. The Church is doing much more than we can imagine… Mrs Onoja lost her husband exactly 20 years ago, 29th November 2004. At that point, everything turned upside down for her. Her late husband’s benefit & gratuity was paid but her brother-in-law held on to it & never gave her a dime from it. He even called her to tell her about it just to spite her. Then the real struggle began. All she could do was pray. No business, No job, Nothing. Children’s school fees began to pile up. In 2013, she went to a place to get some loan to help with the children’s school fees & other things they need. At the place where she went to get a loan, while she was filling the loan form, she received a call, then the person that called said he was from Dunamis & has been instructed by God’s servant Dr Paul Enenche to pay up all of her children’s school for the whole session (1st - 3rd term), & clear all the fees that had piled up. Now, 2 of her children are graduates while the last is in 300L. The church has done more than we can think or imagine, & God is helping the church to do much more today, to help more widows, orphans & indigent in the society irrespective of religion. Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. Janet’s story brings tears to our hearts… ❤️ I don’t like dwelling on painful memories, but I cannot ignore the grace of God in her life. A little girl who lost her parents at such a young age, left in a place where many had already given up on her future… but God had a different plan. When we brought her from Nzeluni Village in Mwingi, Kitui and came into our lives at just three years old, we embraced her fully as our own daughter. Earlier today I posted about the mom who said teaching her kids right from wrong, behavior, reading, and math “isn’t her job — that’s what I pay the teachers for.” Well… here’s where that attitude leads. Maryland school districts are now requiring teachers to potty-train toddlers as “Pre-K for All” expands. The woman in this video nails it: At what point do we just hand our kids over and say “Here, teachers — raise them for us”? Schools already do food assistance, clothing, mental health counseling, dental programs, health programs… and now diapering and toilet training? This isn’t “support.” It’s the state quietly becoming the parent while actual parents check out. And the legal questions are real — who’s watching the rest of the class while one teacher is in the bathroom with a toddler? Two adults present for every change? Where does that staff come from? This is the end result of treating schools like full-time daycare and surrogate parents. Parents: Potty train your own toddlers. Teach them basic life skills at home. Schools exist to educate, not raise your children. The more we outsource, the more the government steps in. This cycle has to stop.

This is the moment I met one of my heroes for the first time. For years, we wrote about brave Iranian protesters from far away. We spoke about a young woman who lost both eyes after the Islamic Republic shot her for demanding freedom in the streets of Iran. Then one day, I finally held her in my arms. Her name is Farideh. A young Kurdish woman from Sanandaj. Blinded by a regime terrified of free women. Too many people reduce these stories to geopolitics and partisan arguments. But all of that disappears when you stand next to a real human being whose life was shattered simply for wanting freedom and dignity. Thanks to Germany, Farideh escaped the Islamic Republic for one simple reason: to live a normal life. To walk freely without bullets waiting for her. And even after losing both eyes, she still raises her voice for those who cannot speak. Iranian women are wounded. But they do not bow to oppressors. 💔✌️

2-year-old Annelise Camp is fighting for her life at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston after a Memorial Day drowning at a hotel pool. Family members performed CPR, restored her heartbeat, and rushed her to the ICU where she remains on a ventilator.
